The Deputy Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said on Sunday that the decisions made by the U.S. government are not guided by logic, and that the Americans only understand the language of force, Iranian state-run IRNA reported.

Brigadier-General Hossein Salami, made his comments to a group of clerics at a theological school in the Iranian holy city of Qom. The clerics and Salami were assembled in the city for a seminar “to highlight current crimes in Yemen,” according to IRNA, a reference to the Saudi-led ongoing “Operation Decisive Storm.”

Salami alleged that, while the “crimes of the Zionists in Lebanon” received global media attention, there were no reporters in Yemen to reflect the country’s realities.

“The Yemeni people are more oppressed than the Palestinian people and the Saudi attack against Yemen is the most stupid war in the history,” Salami said.

Salami also said that Iranians should not assume that the U.S. would easily compromise in the ongoing nuclear talks with Iran, since they are “unjust and merciless in nature,” adding that Americans “spoil their wealth and power in the deserts, without any political justification.”

The latter allegation was possibly an allusion to American support for Saudi Arabia, which is currently leading the coalition campaign against Iranian-proxy Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Salami called the war in Yemen a “U.S. plot” as part of its regional “power games.” He said, “the Islamic Revolution, as the manifestation of the new Islamic civilization in the fight against the arrogant powers, has expanded its activities, and now the arrogant powers, with the US as its pivot, are moving on the path of confrontation against the Islamic Revolution.”

He said that, through its Saudi proxy, the United States was seeking to “regain their hegemony” through “putting pressure on Islam,” and for that reason the U.S. was “masterminding the current scenario in Yemen.”

However, he said, “the reality is that the US imperialism” was on the way to “annihilation,” and that Iran’s Islamic Revolution, “proved that world Muslims are determined to regain their religious identity.”

Salami added that the Americans were now acting “polite” and behaving differently in negotiations, translating into U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, along with the representatives of other global powers, sitting down at a round-table with representatives of “an independent country like Iran to go ahead with diplomatic negotiations.”

He claimed that this American about-face was a result of them knowing that “it is not possible to talk with Iranians with the language of threat [sic],” because the Iranian people are ready at any given moment to give “one million martyrs to defend their pride and they once proved [this during the] Iraqi aggression,” referring to the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
