A senior Iranian official said that the recently agreed nuclear deal with world powers provides Iran with the opportunity to improve its regional standing, as well as its economic and defense capabilities, regime-aligned news agency Tasnim reported on Monday.
“The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will provide a good opportunity for Islamic Republic of Iran to reinforce its economic, regional, and defense capabilities,” said Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Abbas Aragchi.
Aragchi told a Sunday session of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission that Iran’s enemies had exploited the nuclear issue in order to put major obstacles in the way of Tehran, but that these obstacles, which undermined economic ties with other countries, would soon be removed under the JCPOA.
The comprehensive nuclear deal reached between the P5+1 and Iran on July 14 is slated to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran when it comes into force, providing Iran with a major economic influx through the unfreezing of its assets as well as foreign trade.
