GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump was booed by members of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Washington, DC on Thursday, when he failed to commit to recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, The Weekly Standard reported.
“I wanna wait until I meet with Bibi [Netanyahu],” Trump said, when asked if, as president, he would push for this policy.
His answer angered some people in the audience, including a man in the third row whom Trump called a “wise guy,” telling the heckler, “Do me a favor, just relax. Ok? You’ll like me very much, believe me…Don’t worry about it, you’re gonna be very happy.”
Explaining his stance on the topic, Trump said, “If you’re gonna make a deal, you can’t go in with the attitude, ‘We’re gonna shove it down [your throat].’ You gonna go in and get it, and do it and do it nicely so everyone’s happy.”
Earlier, Trump quipped that the audience likes him because his daughter, Ivanka Trump, is Jewish, the Miami Herald reported. He added, “The only bad news is that I can’t get her on Saturday,” referring to her observance of the Sabbath.
