Former Israeli Security Official Pessimistic About Government’s Ability to Tackle Terrorism

A former Israeli security official expressed his pessimism about defeating terrorism in an op-ed in the Hebrew news site nrg on Sunday.
Lior Akerman, a former brigadier-general and division head in the Shin Bet, criticized the Israeli government’s response during 2015 to the increasing threats facing the country. Akerman said the leadership has lacked a consistent policy in relation to the many security challenges posed to the country, and believes the situation will not improve in 2016.
The challenges he listed include: Hezbollah rearming in southern Lebanon; ISIS; Hamas in the Gaza Strip; and the ongoing wave of Palestinian attacks against Israelis.
