A 20-year-old IDF soldier was stabbed Sunday morning near the central bus station in the coastal city of Ashkelon in Israel, Army Radio reported.
He was taken to the Barzilai Medical Center in the city, suffering a light stab wound to his upper torso.
The stabber attempted to flee after the attack. Another soldier managed to wrest the weapon from the man’s hands and shoot him. The assailant was taken to Barzilai hospital as well, but later died of his wounds.
According to Israel’s national broadcaster, the stabber was a Sudanese national. The authorities seized the knife at the scene of the attack.

The authorities suspected terrorism but details surrounding the attack were still being clarified, according to Army Radio.
The stabbing happened a day after an elderly woman was stabbed in the commercial center of the Bedouin city of Rahat also in southern Israel in what the authorities called a suspected terrorist attack.
