Marty Peretz
Former editor-in-chief of The New Republic
Marty Peretz, a titan of journalism honored this past summer by The Algemeiner, is a living example of the coexistence of progressive and pro-Israel thinking.
The former editor-in-chief and publisher of The New Republic, Peretz received our publication’s Lifetime Pioneer Award. In his acceptance speech he delivered a broad and scathing criticism of President Obama’s Middle East policies.
In 2015, the outspoken Peretz wrote: “Whatever else the U.S. has done in the Middle East under Obama, it has certainly not balanced any power. We have not required nor even apparently requested any change of Iranian behavior in the region, so the mullahs and their gunmen continue energetically disrupting the status quo, from Yemen to Lebanon, from Gaza to Bahrain.
“And predictably, as Iranian efforts expand, ISIS grows stronger.”
