Zvi Waldman
Director of Yad Ezrah
Jerusalem’s Yad Ezrah stands out among organizations that offer poverty relief, providing assistance in a respectful, dignified manner.
Under the direction of Rabbi Zvi Waldman, the group provides heavily discounted or free services and goods for every stage of life. For instance, every Wednesday and Thursday, thousands of food packages are put together in the group’s humble Jerusalem warehouse and sent out to needy families to allow them to have food for Shabbat and the following week.
Yad Ezrah also runs several schools and daycare centers for high-risk families and children with special needs, whose education may not have been economically feasible without their help. One of their latest projects is the opening of two dental clinics for needy families.
“We all need help,” Waldman has said, adding that when goods are distributed, “It’s hard to tell who’s getting and who’s giving. We should never feel better than others.”
