Why Is Europe Still Funding Palestinian Terrorism?
Last month, Palestinian Media Watch approached Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen regarding his response to a question asked in the Danish Parliament about statements made by Abbas Zaki, a member of the Fatah Central Committee. In those statements, Zaki glorified terrorism against Israelis, stating that “Allah loves our young people with rocks and knives.” In his response, Jensen described Zaki’s words as “a sad example of inflammatory rhetoric,” but added that Denmark would not be reassessing whether Fatah remains a “moderate” partner for Denmark because Zaki is, in the words of the Danish foreign minister, “a Fatah member residing in Lebanon, who is not considered to have spoken on behalf of Fatah, the PLO, the Palestinian Authority or the Palestinian government. … The statement does not give the government any reason to reconsider the assessment of Fatah and the movement’s leader, President Abbas.”
There is always an excuse if you want one. However, Zaki does reside in the PA and even if he did not, it is completely irrelevant since PA President Mahmoud Abbas and his cohorts themselves are doing a terrific job of inciting, supporting and rewarding terrorism. PMW pointed this out to the Danish minister, saying that “not only does Zaki reside in the PA, but more importantly, Fatah has not been a moderating voice during this current terror campaign. On the contrary, Fatah and its senior leadership are actively promoting terror against Israelis, including the unequivocal glorification of those who have killed and injured Israelis in terror attacks.”
PMW then proceeded to list incriminating examples of senior Fatah leadership glorifying and inciting terrorism against Israelis: Jibril Rajoub, Fatah Central Committee deputy secretary, has described terrorist attacks against Israelis as “individual acts of bravery, and I am proud of them. I congratulate everyone who carried them out. I say to you, we are proud of you. … Whoever confronts, fights, dies as a Martyr, is arrested or injured. … I say that whoever carried out individual acts of heroism, we in the Fatah movement bless and encourage them. We consider them heroes and a crown on the head of every Palestinian. … Are we for or against it? I say that we in the [Fatah] Central Committee have discussed this matter, and we are in favor.” Having it documented, black on white, that the Fatah Central Committee, actively supports terror against Israel, did not move the Danish minister.
PMW also supplied the Danish minister with a music video from official Fatah TV in which the singer, referring to Jews, says to “drown them in a sea of blood” and “kill them as you wish.” The Danish minister was unimpressed.
PMW also supplied the minister with text and photos from Fatah’s official Facebook page, which could leave no one in doubt as to the official position of said organization. Every image is screaming with bloodlust and hatred, but that too left the Danish minister cold.
In addition to this, PMW sent the minister numerous quotes from various PA officials glorifying the murder of Jews, all in vain, since the minister is clearly not into facts.
“We have nothing more to contribute,” the ministry replied when urged by PMW to comment on the specific examples of terror promotion.
What a sadly fitting response from the minister of the country that fostered Hans Christian Andersen, who wrote “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” After all, what could there possibly be to contribute for the foreign minister of a democratic country, who pretends to be a friend of Israel, yet financially contributes Danish taxpayer money to the terror against Israel’s citizens? Thus speaks only someone who has no scruples when it comes to the manner in which his own citizens’ tax payer money is spent and who belies everything that his government feigns to represent, such as human rights and common decency.
In the UK, the funding of terrorists with British taxpayer money has caused somewhat more of a stir. The Daily Mail picked up the story of how the two Palestinian terrorists who nearly killed tour guide Kay Wilson and succeeded in hacking her friend, Kristine Luken, to death are receiving stipends amounting to £9,000 every year from the PA, which the British taxpayer funds with more than £24 million each year.
“Last week, The Mail on Sunday exposed how ‘reward’ payments are going via the PA to thousands of terrorists and to hundreds of other prisoners in Israeli jails,” wrote the Daily Mail. “Ms. Wilson, 51, and her friend were hiking in the Judean Hills in 2010 when the two men pounced on them, believing both women to be Jewish, although Miss Luken was Christian. After tying the women up the terrorists launched a savage attack.”
The Daily Mail contacted the UK’s International Development Department, which of course denies that any British cash reaches terrorists and says its payments to the PA are “ring-fenced” for specific projects. Of course they are — because we all know how meticulous, honest and straightforward the PA is in all its financial and other dealings, especially with Abbas, who has entered the 11th year of his four-year term as president. Interesting how these state authorities, regardless of whether they are Danish or British, have absolutely no qualms about donating millions of funds to an entity which so openly incites, supports and rewards terrorism, as long as they can create the false image of “ring-fences.”
Europe is encountering terrorism on a large scale on its own territory and these attacks are not going to decrease in the future. Until Europe learns that there is no such thing as “good terrorism” and “bad terrorism,” it cannot even begin to dream of defeating terrorism. The odds of Europe ever learning that lesson, however, are not promising.
