Gunmen from the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram are suspected of killing at least 16 people at a Christian church service in northern Nigeria on Sunday morning, according to reports.
In what was the latest in a string of attacks on Christians in the mostly Muslim region of Nigeria, motorcyclists reportedly entered Bayero University’s school theater in the city of Kano, proceeding to throw explosives and shoot at churchgoers.
Since 2009, Boko Haram “has been blamed for killing more than 1,000 people” in a bid to “overthrow Nigeria’s secular government and establish Islamic sharia law nationwide,” a report in The Christian Science Monitor said.
