President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he wants to attend the London Olympic Games to be “beside Iranian athletes,” but that so far the British authorities are not allowing it.
Fifty Iranian athletes have qualified to participate in the Olympics in several sports, including weight lifting, wrestling, shooting, track and field, and table tennis, reported Israel Hayom.
British officials confirmed that they are able to refuse entry to anyone who wants to attend the games if it is proved that the person is “unconducive to the public good.” Last year, Iran objected to the logo of the 2012 Olympics, saying it vaguely resembled the word “Zion.”
