Acclaimed Academy Award – nominated director and producer Ridley Scott, known for legendary blockbusters such as Gladiator, has an eye for a new epic film of biblical proportions for his next project: the story of Moses.
The English filmmaker, 74, is currently promoting his new extra-terrestrial film “Prometheus,” which will arrive in theaters tomorrow. In an interview with Eric Spitznagel for a men’s entertainment magazine to endorse “Prometheus,” Scott says that he is interested in showing the other side of Moses through this new project. Though he admitted that he didn’t pay attention in school when learning about Moses’ story in the Old Testament, Scott says is now interested in not only revealing the prophet’s miraculous undertakings such as leading the Hebrews out of slavery and receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai, but also the more human aspects of Moses as well.
“What’s interesting to me about Moses isn’t the big stuff that everyone knows,” explained Scott. “It’s things like his relationship with Ramses… Some of the details of his life are extraordinary.”
Other films that retell the biblical account of the exodus from Egypt include Charleton Heston’s famous portrayal of Moses in 1956’s “The Ten Commandments”, directed by Cecil B. Demille.
Scott, however, isn’t the only one looking to create a film set in biblical times. Darren Aronofsky, director of “Black Swan,” will be working on “Noah” with Russel Crowe acting in the title role. Steven Spielberg is also making a film about Moses tentatively titled “Gods and Kings” for Warner Brothers.
