Leading Arab daily newspaper based in London, Al-Quds Al-Arabi, published an editorial this morning comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, The Times of Israel reported. “The only thing left is to send them to the gas ovens,” screamed the headline of the article which was not signed, but carried the Twitter handle of editor-in-chief Abdel Bari Atwan at the bottom.
The popular paper which was founded in 1989 has an estimated circulation of between 15,000 and 50,000. The paper has reputation of taking a populist and aggressive stance towards Israel.
The article, cites recently released material which showed that the Israeli Defense Forces calculated the calories needed by Gaza residents while overseeing exports to the Strip. This was done in order to prevent a humanitarian crisis, while enforcing a ban on importing illegal weapons according to the IDF.
“The Israeli army, through its inhumane treatment of over two million Palestinians besieged by land, sea and air, reminds us of similar treatment by the Nazi army of Jewish inmates in the Nazi camps. The only difference is that the Israeli army hasn’t sent the Palestinians to the gas ovens, at least not yet,” accused the editorial, as translated by The Times of Israel.
“The Gaza Strip has turned into a big prison, the keys of which are held by the Israeli army. This army’s level of sadism has reached the point of depriving [Gaza of] medicine, food and fuel, and bombarding it on a quasi-daily basis by airplanes to kill activists who oppose this inhumane behavior.”
“Israel’s army and its leadership take pleasure in torturing the Palestinian people and enjoy its moans of deprivation and suffering. They do this under the watchful eye of the democratic free world, reassured of no external intervention. For who can challenge Israel and protest this behavior?”
