YNet – The Palestinians on Thursday said Israel has carried out its threat to suspend transfer of tax payments to the Palestinian Authority over this week’s admission of Palestine to the UN’s cultural agency.
Israel collects about $100 million in customs, border and some income taxes each month on behalf of the Palestinians, then relays the funds to the Palestinian Authority, which runs the West Bank.
JPost – Israel halted its $2 million annual payment to UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, on Thursday, in protest over its decision Monday to accept “Palestine” as its 195th member.
In a statement, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said, “Such steps [the UNESCO vote] distance peace, they don’t advance it. The only path to peace is through the immediate resumption of negotiations without preconditions.”
