Correction from Reuters: The three-year-old girl who had been reported killed by an Israeli air strike in Gaza on Wednesday actually died of an accident, Palestinian medical workers said on Thursday. Workers at Gaza's Shifa hospital said on August 10, 2006 that the initial mistake over the cause of death appeared to have arisen because the girl's corpse was brought in at the same time as the bodies of the gunmen. A viral photo spread across Twitter hundreds of times over the past 24 hours, in which a 6 year old Palestinian girl covered in blood is said to have been struck by the Israeli Air Force, has been found to be falsified and inaccurate.

It turns out the picture is from 2006 and the girl fell off a swing.

The photo (below) was first tweeted by Khulood Badawi and Diana Alzeer.

Above, the photo itself is posted, along with the 2006 correction, which originated from Reuters, in both text and picture formats.

The image was tweeted by anti-Israel activist Khulood Badawi. Photo: Screenshot.
