NY Times – Syria’s diplomatic isolation in the Arab world deepened on Friday as four more Persian Gulf states were reported to be closing their embassies in Damascus while government forces pressed offensives in the north of the country and in areas around the capital.
Turkey, Syria’s formerly friendly neighbor to the north, also signaled it deepening antipathy toward the Syrian government, urging all Turkish nationals in Syria to return home as soon as possible and warning that it would soon close the consular section of its Damascus embassy — a possible prelude to closing the embassy itself.
