In an interview with the French newspaper Le Telegramme, a French woman explains how Mohammed Merah, the man who admitted to killing 7 people in the last two weeks and died Thursday after jumping out of a window during a standoff with French police, tried to convert her son to perform jihad and that she warned French police about the dangers of Merah in 2010.
“He came to the front of our home, threatened me and hit me. He said that I was an atheist and that I must pay like all the rest of France,” the woman said.
This encounter followed an incident in which Merah brought the woman’s son to his home, handing him a Koran and a sword, while showing the young boy Al Qaeda videos of beheadings and the murders of women.
“My son called me and we were finally able to get him out of there. He was there from 5 P.M. until midnight,” she said.
According to the French newspaper’s report, the woman filed multiple complaints to French police about Merah, in addition to warning them of the dangers he posed on numerous occasions. She claims to still have the paperwork from one of the complaints filed with police.
Referring to Mohammed’s brother, Abdelkader, whose e-mail address was pivotal in tracking down the killer, the woman said, “It is he who brainwashed [Mohammed] and often flew out of France.”
