JTA – Israel’s defense minister, Ehud Barak, called the recent deployment of U.S. forces in the Persian Gulf “impressive” and suggested that the United States is prepared to deal with Iran.

“Israel reserves the right to make sovereign decisions, and the U.S. respects that, but no mistake should be made regarding the impressive scope of the American preparations to deal with the Iranian challenge on all levels,” Barak said Thursday at a political gathering, according to Haaretz.

    The question is not of the scope of American military might, but of President Barack Obama’s willingness to use it to stop Iran–after the elections.

    It is not as if Obama has a warm relationship with PM Netanyahu or Israel. Frankly I don’t trust him, re: his willingness to stop Iran’s quest for a nuclear weapon–to be used against Israel, by their (the mullah’s and A-jad’s) own statements.

    I think he will want a ‘containment’ policy, which would be useless to protect Israel against a govt of fanatics willing to die to kill you.
