During a segment on CNN’s Outfront with Erin Burnett last night Naftali Bennett, former Chief of Staff for Benjamin Netanyahu and Knesset contender, debated Ed Husain, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. At one point Burnett asked Bennett about a poll in Haaretz that claimed only 30% of Israelis supported a ground operation into Gaza. “We’re talking about an al-Qaeda style organization. Hamas is funded by Iran, Iran’s goal is to eliminate Israel; there’s no peace to be discussed with people who want to kill you.” Husain tries to interject: “Hamas isn’t funded by Qatar. Qatar is a U.S. ally.” We’re not sure what one had to do with the other.
Later in the broadcast Erin Burnett asks Bennett about pictures of dead children in Gaza, to which Bennett responds in part: “They’re shooting missiles at our houses, we’re shooting the terrorists. They are hiding behind kids, they’re hiding within hospitals. That is a terrorist act. The people who are killing those kids are the Hamas.”
