U.S.-born Ron Dermer will be Israel’s next ambassador to the U.S., Israel’s Army Radio reported Friday.

According to the report, there was some hesitancy in giving Dermer the job, as his perceived support of Mitt Romney in last year’s presidential election had alienated the  Obama administration.

However, Army Radio reported that the Obama administration has now rescinded its objections to Dermer’s appointment. Obama’s recent trip to Israel was apparently instrumental in this regard, the report stated.

Dermer, 41,was born and raised in Florida, where his father and brother have both served as mayors of Miami Beach. A Wharton-schooled economist and Oxford-trained political theorist, this senior adviser to the prime minister has been said to have such an influence on Benjamin Netanyahu that one person familiar with their relationship has said, “Bibi doesn’t move an inch without talking to him.” Referred to as “Bibi’s brain” by Tablet magazine, another long-time observer of the relationship said, “If you look at Ron, you see Bibi.”

Below is a video of Dermer speaking about Benjamin Netanyahu during a recent trip to New York.
