Three thugs accused by police of shooting a Chasidic Jew with a paintball gun from a moving car have been charged with hate crimes in Kaser-Ramapo, New York, the Associated Press reported.

The police said the perpetrators, who are in their twenties, face “assault as a hate crime” and other charges for the attack.

The victim told police that he was standing with a friend in the street in the Chasidic community of Kaser when the attackers drove by. One of the men leaned out of the passenger window, shouted an expletive about Jews, then shot him at least twice in the abdomen. He suffered minor injuries from the shooting.

Police said members of a community patrol group cornered the suspects and their vehicle, leading to their arrest.

Kaser is a densely populated village of about 5,000 Vizhnitz Chasids living within 0.2 square miles, and was created in 1990 within the town of Ramapo, north of Monsey, in New York state.
