A photo of a friendly embrace between Egyptian intelligence official General Amir al Damogy and Israeli counterpart General Assaf Orion was posted by popular Arab social media accounts over the weekend, enraging online readers who objected to the high-level collaboration between the armed forces of the two countries, which one Facebook page declared as “traitorous.”

The photograph, first uploaded to Facebook on August 13, 2013, was taken from the cover of a United Nations Director General’s report from 2011. The Facebook page, titled “Brotherhood Intelligence Agency (ASA),” has a large following of 151,000 “likes” and, according to Israel’s Channel 2, was created by Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.

The post condemned the “apparent coordination between the parties, Egypt and Israel,” which it said was “completely contrary to common logic and health.” It called for the purge of “traitors” from within the Egyptian Army and claimed that “we (the Muslim Brotherhood) are the only ones who can do it,” according to Channel 2’s translation.

Reader comments on the post emphasized the point that “traitors sold Egypt,” as one wrote.

The message in other words is that the Egyptian Army, which is leading the nation after the overthrow of Muslim Brotherhood leader and former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, is beholden to Israel, and should be taken down, presumably to allow the Brotherhood to regain control over the country, an unnamed Israeli security official explained to Channel 2.

“To the Muslim Brotherhood it is clear,” the Israeli security official said, “that since the number of fatalities in Egypt is not as high as in Syria, and the Army there still has the support of most of the public, therefore, they must do everything to harm the Egyptian army, which is not simple, but there is nothing better than to show that the generals embraced the Israelis.”

The security official added that Brotherhood operatives will do everything to find more pictures like this. “As time passes and as the situation deteriorates, the Brotherhood, which does not have military capabilities, are trying to pull Israel into the conflict, which is the only point around which they can create an Egyptian consensus,” he said.

Rather than being “drawn into” the fray, he said the long-running “below the surface” contacts between the Egyptian and Israeli security forces were important to maintain and foster.

The controversial Facebook post came after reports last week confirming heightened collaboration between the two armies, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, where Brotherhood supporters have fled to join the ranks of Al Qaeda groups that are seeking to establish autonomy.

Egypt must not stop short fighting Nazi style criminals from MB. If MB survives, sooner or later, it will retaliate and current Egypt authorities, military staff and supporters will get the fate, similar to that that Turkey old guards face under Erdogan, or even worse. There is a fundamental rule of war: never left your enemies alive, only dead enemies are good enemies. Actually, MB branches around the world shall be eliminated completely.

This is hopeful, a positive outlook.

  • Don’t Muslims, Christians, and Jews all venerate the same God?

  • since when is muslim propaganda news? The world embraces any propaganda which shows Jews in an unfavorable light…regardless of the hypocrisy. and fact checking? what is that?

Id be shocked to see an article like this exposing the muslim agenda in the NY Times, CNN, HuffPost, Rueters, APP…feel free to add to the list… check out the pallywood movies

islam is pure evil, as evidenced by its adherents.

The picture shows there may be a good future.

I suppose the same idiots behind the MB facebook page are equally opposed to Syrian fighters seriously injured battling the Al Assad regime and unarmed civilians expressing any gratitude for life saving medical care received in Israel.

You are all right, and I agree, the photograph was probably doctored. You can expect manufactured ‘evidence’ from the MB, because it is literally their only chance at a recovery.

Its good to be friends in a neighborhood fraught with instability and strife. I think sane minds should prevail amongst all the chaos a few are creating for the masses in Syria Egypt and elsewhere across the Muslim world. First of all we all are humans beings,we have divided ourselves into ethnic religious cultural and color of skin groups and created all these conflicts. I don’t think God wants us to be this way.

    • Completely agree with you Rashid – This is not God’s plan.

    • To be precise the God of the Bible in fact has created the various nations, and races. We must first acknowledge that fact. The God of The Bible is unique in that not only is he supreme over Nature, but also over Human History.
Bible prophecy is filled with rising and falling empires. All are from a point of view centered upon Ha’aretz Yisrael.
The key is to properly identify the Israelite nations today. The State of Israel would be much more accurately known by “Judah” or “Judaea” the nation of the Jewish People. YES, they are descendents of Israelites and are Israelites. BUT they do not consist of ALL of Israel.
ALL OF ISRAEL= The Jewish People + the descendents of the Tribes of the Northern Kingdom (Headed by the Tribes of Joseph) + all those who have availed themselves of the opportunity to enter into Beit Israel via Yeshua.
Deut. 28:15-> reads unlike any of the previous conquests of The Land. This chapter describes not a military defeat and subsequent conquest by external foes. The Assyrians (conquerers of the Northern Kingdom [Israel], Babylon (conquerer of the Southern Kingdom [Judah], and Rome final conquerer of the Jewish Nation, cannot be described as in Deut. 28.
Deut. 28 describes an insidious weakening, a diminishment of confidence, indebtedness to foreigners, having aliens becoming the head and the people the tale.
Gen. describes the latter days of each of the Twelve (or 13 counting Ephraim and Menashe in place of Joseph). Reading Ephraim and Menashe’s promises and a few verses later those of Joseph in general one finds that they are promised to be GREAT POWERS. Goring nations to the ends of the earth. Two brotherly nations with worldly power, wealth, land and blessings, in the latter days: can it be any but British and Americans?
The Deut. curses are 100% accurately applied to the Anglosphere.
America is the land in the heart of the earth. Ensconced between two great oceans, drained by massive river systems, the richest farm land on the planet, the sole hyper-power. And yet, everything is turning bad. All the blessings are removed. The curses have begun.

Amicable relationships between Israeli and Egyptian officials and military personnel should be celebrated by all concerned!

    • Pam Chester

      YES! Simply stated, I agree.

  • Dee Dial

Take a closer look and you will see that this is a doctored picture. The MB will try anything to get Islamic power — IT WILL NOT HAPPEN

    • Basil

How is this photo doctored? I would like to know. I have experience in this field and can find no evidence of doctoring.

Aside from killing Christians and with no Jews readily available, the barbarian cretins have very little else to contribute

Please, anyone who is surprised by the Egyptian reaction to this, please do a search for the “Candid Camera” Youtube video with Iman Mubarak (an attractive young Egyptian actress posing as an interviewer for Israeli television) and Ayman Kandeel (apparently, a popular Egyptian actor).

In the video, Kandeel becomes enraged when he learns that he is being interviewed for Israeli TV and goes absolutely berserk, violently attacking the studio personnel. Not until he is given the identity card of the young Iman Mubarak to inspect (he holds it up to the light) does he relent. It apparently reveals that she is a “real” Egyptian.

This is the hatred for Israel that is deeply ingrained within the Egyptian populace, both Muslim and (maybe to a slightly lesser degree) the Coptic Christians.
