Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Prosor, responded sharply to comments made recently by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in which he denied that there was an endemic anti-Israel bias problem at the UN.

“Blatant denial is no recipe for change,” said the Ambassador in an email to The Algemeiner, adding, “This bias will continue as long as it is not acknowledged and dealt with at the highest echelons of the UN.”

“It doesn’t take the investigative skills of Agatha Christie to deduce that there’s bias against Israel at the United Nations,” he said.

Speaking to journalists at the UN Monday Ki-moon was asked by an Israel Radio reporter about comments he made while visiting Israel Friday that acknowledged that bias against Israel was prevalent at the UN. In what appeared to be a sharp turnaround the Secretary General responded “No, I don’t think there is discrimination against Israel at the United Nations.”

Memorial to Iraqi Tyrant Saddam Hussein Unveiled in Palestinian West Bank City

Backing up his statement Prosor provided examples of UN bias against the Jewish state in his email to The Algemeiner.

“Every year, the General Assembly passes over 20 resolutions that single out Israel. These resolutions are passed in a ‘standard operating procedure,’ discriminating against Israel with absolutely zero connection to changing realities in the world or the Middle East. In 2012 alone, the GA passed 21 resolutions condemning us – and only three condemning ‘beacons of human rights’ like Syria, Iran, and North Korea,” he wrote.

Prosor also referred to the UN Human Rights Council’s Agenda Item 7 which singles out Israel, citing it as an instance of anti-Israel discrimination.

“In the UN Human Rights Council, there is an Agenda Item 4 that deals with human rights violations all over the world – including in ‘Jeffersonian democracies’ like Libya, Syria and Sudan. Israel, however, is the only country in the world that is singled out for a special Agenda Item 7. If this is not discrimination, what is?” he said.

The Ambassador also pointed out the UN’s historic attitude towards Israel, saying, “Although Israel has been a UN member state since 1949, for 51 years Israel was denied access to any UN regional group. Only in May 2000 was Israel allowed to join the regional group WEOG. If that’s not discrimination, what is?”

On Tuesday a senior Israeli official told The Times of Israel that Israel was “disappointed” by Ki-moon’s comments.

“We were disappointed when we saw these reported remarks. It’s clear that Israel has been systematically discriminated against at the United Nations and the way to start dealing with that issue is first of all to recognize that there’s a problem,” the official said.

I’VE ALWAYS MAINTAINED THAT THE U.N. IS NOTHING MORE THAN A DEBATING SOCIETY GOING NOWHERE.

WITH THE MENTION OF THE U.N., ONE SHOULD ASK, IF IT’S GOOD FOR THE JEWS. THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS “NO”.

  • Solution? Simple enough, Israel should resign from the UN.

  • Ivan Gur-Arie

U could understand Mr Moon, if he felt his testicles being squeezed by the other hypocrites in the UN, but it is apparent Mr, Moon does not posses any semblance of manhood and honesty.

  • Jenny P

There has even been video proof that UN vehicles have been used to transport rockets and other weaponry for the terrorists to fire into Israel. Nothing gets said or done. The commentators that state of consequences are most assuredly correct.

  • David

For a supposedly well educated man, Mr. Moon’s comment reveals his true identity—-ignorant. What can you expect from a man whose nation is Anti-Semitic?

    • Geoff

      Agreed.

  • Carl

Is the Secretary General’s calendar publicly disclosed? I would bet he received a lashing from the Islamic Block following his original statement acknowledging UN bias. The turnaround probably was in direct response to threats.

  • Benyamin

And how can we forget Nazi kurt Waldheim?

  • Benyamin

UNwilling to change, UNneeded in this time, UNFUND.

  • Dennis Loh

If there is bias at the UN against Israel, one should ask why? The patent answer is anti-Semitism. The real answer is Israel’s behavior. Change its behavior, Israel will be better received at the UN. Quite simple and straightforward.

    • Rafi Manory

      Oh really?
Where are the UN resolutions against Coptic Christians being killed in Egypt and their churches burned down? What about Sunni and Shia Muslims killing each other in Arab and Muslim countries? What about the Bahai in Iran that are being persecuted.
Israel is the only democracy in the region and it is only singled out because of the vociferous propaganda against it. Israel did not willingly occupied the West Bank and King Hussein of Jordan did not want ot back after it happened. And Gaza is not occupied but rockets are launched from there often…So perhaps the attitude change has to be happen in the mind of the Muslim countries, most of which are not are run on religious hatred of the Jews.

    • mark stern

      Dennis,
what do you suggest Israel should change its attitude to,
give us some examples that you consider acceptable?

    • Carl

The only change in behavior that will be accepted in the opinion poll that comprises the UN is for Israel to give up its right to exist as a nation. Short of that, Israel is reflexively condemned for everything including defending against monstrous terror attacks. There was no “occupation” prior to 1967, yet the UN organizational bias against Israel was in full swing, with a special refugee agency just for Palestinians and all the formal committes and observances promoting the Palestinian agenda instead of peace.

    • Don

Hmmm. Really? What about the behavior of Syria, Egypt, Iran, North Korea? Are you suggesting Israel behave more like them? Israel is the only country in the Mid-East where the Arabs have a free press. Christians are not attacked for being Christian. Should Israel behave more like Iraq and Egypt and start burning Churches to the ground. In Israel, Arabs can vote in free elections. Are you suggesting that perhaps Israel become more like a dictatorship?

    • Geoff

In what way should Israel change its behavior? The only change its detractors will accept would be to disappear. That will leave the field clear for some of its enemies. They will then be able to continue their “peaceful” co-existence, better describes as murdering each other. Don’t comment on matters of which you are either ignorant, biased, or both.

What should one expect to come out from the “Tower of Babël”(UN). A disunited conglomeration of dissenting & biased voices. It is an experiment that has gone lost in the wilderness. Ban Ki Moos biased uttering should come as no surprise.

Antisemitism and anti Israel is a chronic disease. The UN needs to be sanitized.

  • Doesnt Israel Radio have a recording of this? I dont understand, its easy to put this one to bed. Has anyone contacted Israel Radio?

  • What is a ‘Jeffersonian democracy’?

New terms keep popping up, and old terms keep changing meaning, there’s a need for new glossaries every year, if not every month.

What is agenda item 4, and what is item 7? Since I’m not privy to the U.N. Agenda, how can I see them as examples of the inherent anti-Israel bias without knowing what they say?

  • What a two-faced weasel.

Ban shows the lack of courage an honesty one has come to expect of the entire UN.
