JNS.org A number of official Palestinian Authority (PA) media reports recently blamed Israel and Jews for setting fire to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem in 1969, even though the arson was proved to have been committed by non-Jewish Australian tourist Denis Michael Rohan,Palestinian Media Watch reported Aug. 29.

On Aug. 23, PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash told PA TV, “Where is the Al-Aqsa Mosque?… It is lost. It was set on fire 44 years ago by criminal hands, in the shadow of a criminal occupation (referring to Israel), and acting in collusion with the criminal occupation (Israel).”

The official PA daily newspaper, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, wrote,Today, Wednesday, Aug. 21, is the 44th anniversary of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque fire of 1969, after the radical Jew Michael Denis [Rohan] set fire to the Mosque.” Rohan was a member of a Christian sect, the Worldwide Church of God. He was hospitalized in a mental institution after his trial in Israel.

Also on Aug. 21, a PA TV narrator said, “On August 21, 1969 AD, after East Jerusalem was occupied, one of the Jews set fire to the Al-Aqsa Mosque so that it would go up in flames. The fire completely destroyed its wooden platform, ornaments and southern sections.”

This is by no means the first time that Palestinian nazi al-Habbash has engaged in hateful, incendiary Jew-bashing. He’ll never stop-he is their “religious affairs” minister-a true Moslem extremist. So what should the Israelis do about this particular nazi? The answer should not be shocking to any realist: they should kill him. Those inciting de facto genocide against the Jewish people should be killed. Period. Learn from history.

Denis Michael Rohan died in 1995, in psychiatric care in Sydney’s Callan Park Mental Hospital. He was one of two million contributors to the magazine associated with the Worldwide Church of G-d, an American fringe Christianity group. There is no indication that he acted other than on the basis of his own imaginary “divine inspiration”

Callan Park mental hospital is itself now no more. It closed down long ago and the supposedly haunted historic buildings now house a Sydney Art College. Locals and students alike often think that that at least is rather appropriate

The dangerous surfacing of mental illness at times of conflict is not unusual. Looking at the Middle East at the moment – there just aren’t enough doctors to go round, and the innocent sane suffer as a result.

Maybe he converted decades after Jerusalem was liberated from its 19 year Jordanian military occupation. Curious that the “news” people can’t tell the difference between the end of occupation and the beginning.
