Israeli Gives Birth to Heavyweight Boy Weighing Nearly 14 Pounds
Whoa, Baby! is what one would imagine doctors at the Rambam Health Care Campus, in Haifa, said — albeit in Hebrew — when a woman gave birth earlier this week to a 13-pound-7-ounce baby boy.
According to the hospital the parents were not able to find proper baby pajamas the right size for the unexpectedly large child after he was delivered by Cesarean section in the 38th week of pregnancy.
Rambam physicians calculated that the baby is the approximate size and weight of a regular six-month old. Guinness recently reported that a baby weighing 13.49 pounds was born in Germany this July and in August, a baby weighing 13.66 pounds was born in Spain.
According to Guinness, the largest baby at birth on record was delivered by Anna Bates, who standing 7 ft 5.5 in herself, gave birth to a boy weighing 23 lb 12 oz at her home in Seville, Ohio, USA on January 19, 1879, but the baby died 11 hours later.
