U.S., Iran Top Diplomats to Meet at United Nations

Washington Post – Iran’s foreign minister will meet later this week with representatives of other foreign powers, including Secretary of State John F. Kerry, marking one of the highest-level contacts between the United States and Iran in years.

The announcement — made Monday by the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, after a meeting at U.N. headquarters with the Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif — comes as the United States and Iran have been exploring the prospects of improved relations. It also sets the stage for a new push to reinvigorate international talks aimed at assuring the world that Iran is not trying to develop nuclear weapons.
