ABC News – The mayor of Jerusalem was fighting for his political survival in a closely watched re-election race Tuesday that was the centerpiece of nationwide municipal elections and had broad implications for Israeli politics.
Secular Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat, a successful former high-tech entrepreneur, was elected in 2008 in a victory seen as a blow to years of dominance by ultra-Orthodox religious Jews over the city’s affairs.
