Israeli President’s Residence Spent Over 57 Million Shekels in 2013

Israel Hayom – The President’s Residence spent just over 57 million shekels ($16 million) in 2013, according to information released by President Shimon Peres’ staff on Wednesday. Some NIS 11 million ($3.2 million) went toward routine operations, NIS 8 million ($2.3 million) went for the president’s travel, and NIS 4.2 million ($1.2 million) went on various security measures.

The president’s office said the 2013 figures represent an 8 percent drop from 2012, adding that the president’s decision not to live in his private residence saved the state millions of shekels. Half the president’s travel budget was used for security-related expenses, in accordance with Shin Bet security agency protocol.
