General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, on Monday joked that his wife was upset that he speaks to Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon more than her, as a meeting between the two military leaders began in Israel, according to the UK’s Jewish News.

Ya’alon stood firm by Israel’s ally, saying, that the U.S. was “truly our best friend.”

Ya’alon’s statement, which he has made in the past, comes after being asked to apologize by the U.S. administration twice; first, for his public critique of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s handling of ongoing peace talks with the Palestinian Authority and, second, for America’s treatment of Iran’s nuclear program, which he said Israel may have to respond to on its own.
