Comedian Mocks Jewish U.K. Labour Party Leader for Eating Bacon
British comedian David Schneider on Wednesday ridiculed United Kingdom Labour Party leader Ed Miliband after the Jewish politician was photographed eating a bacon sandwich.
“As a Jew the worst thing with the Miliband pic is he’s eating bacon,” Schneider, who is also Jewish, said on Twitter. In a play on Bill Clinton’s famous admission to smoking marijuana, the comedian added, “I confess I’ve eaten it too, but I didn’t inhale.”
Schneider also posted a picture of the politician’s breakfast, and a link to an article he wrote for The Guardian about “uglyism in politics.”
The incident, which took place on Monday, made headlines in Britain as the leading politician came off looking decidedly awkward while working to tackle the slippery snack.
The breakfast stop was choreographed to portray Miliband as a man of the people as he began a 10 city tour of the U.K. ahead of Thursday’s European and local elections.
“The assembled photographers quickly took an interest after it became apparent that the mound of oozing ketchup and grease could not be tackled elegantly,” the Belfast Telegraph reported.
Miliband was spared further embarrassment when shadow cabinet member Lord Wood whisked the messy dish away.
