British Foreign Secretary William Hague told his Twitter followers on Tuesday that he reached out to Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and congratulated him on the PA’s new unity government with the Gaza-based terror group Hamas.
“Spoken to Palestinian Prime Minister Hamdallah to congratulate him and welcome the formation of a new government,” Hague tweeted.
He added, “Discussed Gaza with PM Hamdallah – I hope it will now be possible to improve humanitarian situation in Gaza and advance the peace process.”
Hague’s message came just hours after Hamas praised a shooting attack on Monday night targeting Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint in northern Samaria. The incident, which took place at the Tapuach Junction in eastern Shechem, resulted in the death of the attacker, Alaa Mahmoud Odeh, and the wounding of an Israeli soldier.
Also on Monday, PA President Mahmoud Abbas swore in the 17-member joint Fatah-Hamas government.
