One Direction band leader Harry Styles, a gentile Jewish aficionado, appeared on a big screen at a Jewish wedding in England on the request of the groom to test the loyalty of his new wife, a big One Direction fan, by offering to elope with her, if she were to meet him at Orli’s, a kosher bakery and deli in Borehamwood, where he’d be waiting.

While the bride took a minute longer than the groom might have hoped, she turned down the offer from Styles, although Orli’s reported that it was swamped with dozens of One Direction fans looking to meet the singer.

The UK’s Jewish News on Thursday reported the wedding story of James and Tash Gershfield and the groom’s plan to “put her through a little test.”

Styles appeared on a giant screen in front of the 250 guests, telling Tash, “You don’t have go through with this. It’s not too late.”

“I’ll be waiting for you at Orli’s in Borehamwood for the next three hours,” he said, struggling to keep the smile off his face. “If you don’t come I’ll understand… but that’s where I’ll be.”

The Jewish News said one of the couple’s friends reported that “Every single guest was shouting ‘Go go go!'”

“Then the microphone was handed to Tash and the first thing she said was simply, ‘Can you play that again?’ The whole room was in disbelief!”

“Eventually Tash had to answer and she said she would stay! Everyone cheered. She was in total shock – it was so amazing to see her face.”

Another wedding guest told the Jewish News that the idea was a consolation for the bride missing the band’s concert: “When the dates for the Where We Are Tour came out and they happened to fall on her wedding day, she was devastated.”
