Reality Bites: Gaza Rocket Alert Siren Shocks Contestants on Israel’s ‘Big Brother’ Reality Show” (VIDEO)
Contestants on Israel’s popular “Big Brother” reality television show found out just how real it can get when a siren warning of a rocket fired from Gaza towards the center of the country wailed during the filming of an episode, Sunday night.
“I heard a siren,” one startled cast member said, and within moments, the entire cast fled from their normal activities and crowded into the “planning room,” their movements though the house tracked by the numerous cameras that follow their every movement.
Out in the “real” real world, beyond the converted home used in the program, a senior Israeli army source told Army radio on Tuesday that Hamas will likely try to hit Tel Aviv overnight with 80-km range Grad rockets, like in 2012’s Operation Defensive Shield.
Municipal officials in Tel Aviv and neighboring Givatiyim in the central Gush Dan region instructed residents in homes and apartment buildings to clear out and prepare private and public bomb shelters and protected spaces.
Additionally, city officials in Rishon Letzion, south of Tel Aviv, are evacuating their beach, over concerns that rockets may be fired along the coastal area.
The army’s Iron Dome anti-missile system downed a rocket over Gedera – some 15 miles south of Tel Aviv – early Tuesday evening, the IDF said.
Palestinians fired dozens of rockets at Ashdod and Ashkelon to the south, as well as numerous other communities and more rural areas, as well as towards areas southeast of Jerusalem – close to 50 kilometers away from the coastal Gaza enclave.
All told, Palestinians have fired close to 150 rockets into Israel since midnight, physically wounding about 10 people, and throwing scores of others into traumatic shock.
Israeli Air Force counter strikes against Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders and rocket crews have killed close to two dozen Palestinians and wounded similar numbers, according to Palestinian sources.
