The Israel Defense Forces on Thursday said soldiers uncovered a 14-meter tunnel shaft in the basement prayer room of a Gaza mosque, according to footage posted to its YouTube channel.

After a firefight, the IDF recorded video of the mosque, and found the Hamas militants were protecting so fiercely, an elaborate cement and steel tunnel. The IDF also found another tunnel shaft, hidden behind a wall.

Laid out on a Muslim prayer rug, the IDF also captured an image of machine guns and ammunition.

Using civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and mosques, for military purposes is against international rules of war.
