William Shatner Rips Elliot Gould in Fundraising Video for Jewish School

Legendary actor William Shatner took fellow star Elliot Gould to task over the latter’s pronunciation of ‘Oregon’ in a recently released fundraising video for a Jewish school in Portland.
In the clip supporting the Campus of Jewish Life, set to be the first Jewish preschool in Portland to be certified as eco-friendly, Gould says “Won’t it be terrific for Jewish students out here to say, ‘Yeah, I’m proud to be the product of a great Jewish education in Portland, Oregon.'”
In response, Shatner led Gould have it.
“Elliot, [it’s] Will Shatner. I’ve seen the piece you did for the school… it’s no good. ‘Oregon’ is like saying ‘Semite,'” he joked. “‘Oregon’ is thunder and lightning to the people who live there. You’ve gotta have a slur. Orrgon. It’s Orrgon.”
“Really? You’re an American, aren’t you?” he teased.
After Shatner tweeted a link to the video last month it quickly went viral, attracting thousands of views over the course of a day, according to Chabad.org.
“The response to the video has been exhilarating,” said Rabbi Motti Wilhelm—co-director of Portland’s Westside Chabad House. His wife, Mimi Wilhelm, director at the new preschool, said, “It’s just a part of the community involvement and dedication that has made the Campus of Jewish Life so great.”
