Telegram — President Barack Obama is expected to ignore angry protests from Republicans and announce as soon as next week a broad overhaul of the nation’s immigration enforcement system that will protect up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from the threat of deportation and provide many of them with work permits, according to administration officials who have direct knowledge of the plan.

Asserting his authority as president to enforce the nation’s laws with discretion, Obama intends to order changes that will significantly refocus the activities of the government’s 12,000 immigration agents. As a high-school English teacher for twenty years and then an English professor in colleges and universities for another sixteen years in both Israel and the United States, I have taught hundreds of Latino and Chicano students. I have even heard the personal stories of many Chicano and Chicana students whose families had to deal with the constant spectre of the US Immigration Service in their midst. From the perspective of a caring educator, I agree with President Obama and wish the hell so many Mexican families are living finally goes away. On the other hand, President Obama is almost certainly usurping the powers he has gleaned as the steward of the Executive Branch of the United States Government without consulting with Congress on such sweeping decisions made law by executive decree. Charles Krauthammer even maintains that President Obama may be committing an impeachable offence by foregoing any dialogue with the Republican Congress on his sweeping immigration reforms. Again we Americans may see usurpation of executive privilege by this incumbent president. It would not be surprising in the least.

What if I was to live illegally in Mexico? Would they grant me legal status? NOT. Singapore don’t have a problem of what to do with illegals. They jail them, then kick em out. A child born in Singapore of a non Singpore citizen is not granted citizenship (Unlike the US).
