Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres asked  her live studio audience to identify rabbis and santas from close up shots of their beards, in an episode late last week of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

She said the game, which she titled “Saint Nick or Rabbi Pic”, was prompted by the overlapping this year of Christmas and Hanukkah, and was intended to combine the traditions of both holidays.

As the show proceeds, to raucous laughter from the audience, three of the beards are identified incorrectly and two are not.

  • Very cute. Made me think. If the standard image of Santa was created in late 19th Century America, is it possible the creator had a traditional Rabbi in mind? The fur hat and the flowing white beard were far freom typically American.

  • Very cute! Made me laugh….thanks
