JNS.org – The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas said it is “totally opposed” to a plan by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to resubmit a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for the end of Israel’s presence in the disputed territories.

“Hamas is totally opposed to any return to the UN Security Council by the Palestinian Authority,” spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said, AFPreported.

“Such a step would be political foolishness which plays a dangerous game with the destiny of our nation. Mahmoud Abbas and the leadership of the Palestinian Authority should completely stop this political foolishness,” Abu Zuhri said.

Abbas has said he is in discussions with Jordan on plans to resubmit a UN resolution. While Jordan remains on the Security Council, several countries with revolving membership joined the Council for the start of 2015. The United States is a permanent member on the Council and has threatened to veto any unilateral Palestinian statehood measure.

Hamas generally opposes any involvement in UN or other international bodies and prefers to carry out violence, or what it calls “armed resistance,” against Israel.
