Church of Scotland’s Rejection of BDS and Criticism of Hamas Draws Cautious Welcome From Country’s Jews

Scottish Jews have cautiously welcomed the Church of Scotland's decision at its annual General Assembly to reject the BDS campaign...

Insecurity among French Jews will only worsen with today's terrorist outrage at a kosher supermarket in eastern Paris. Photo: JSSNews

Paris, January 9 – French Jews watched today’s two terrorist outrages in Paris, one of which targeted a kosher supermarket, with a deepening sense of fear.

French TV channel France 2 showed images of dozens of hostages fleeing the scene, including one holding an infant, shortly after the police operation to end the siege at the supermarket was launched.

Speaking on RTL, a French radio station, Roger Cukierman, President of the Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France (CRIF,) said he was not surprised to hear that the Jewish community was being targeted. “Fanatical Islamism always targets the Jewish community,” he said. “This attack took place two days before a nationwide rally will be held to demonstrate our national unity and defend democracy. We are targets like all French citizens are now targets.”

Following this week’s brutal massacre at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, CRIF held an emergency meeting on Thursday with a number of Jewish representatives in order to discuss the measures French authorities must take to counter the country’s mounting anti-Semitism.

The siege at the kosher supermarket in the eastern Paris neighborhood of Porte de Vincennes revived painful memories for Paris’ Jewish community – in 1982, the bombing of the Goldenberg restaurant on the famous Rue des Rosiers of the city’s Marais neighbourhood left six dead and 22 wounded. As a precaution, earlier today police ordered shops to close along the Rue des Rosiers, which is located 2.5 miles from Porte de Vincennes.

In a sign of the vulnerability of other Jewish targets in France, the SPCJ (Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive) reported on Thursday that a projectile hit the window of a synagogue located in the capital’s 19th arrondissement, and that police security was reinforced in the area.

Joël Mergui, another prominent communal leader who heads the Consistoire Central Israélite de France, declared on Friday that he was “horrified by what was happening in the country.”  Interviewed by the daily newspaper 20Minutes, Mergui said: “We are living a French September 11…radical Islamism is attacking free speech and the Jewish community.”

Asked whether French Jews should be particularly cautious at this time, Mergui responded: “The Jewish community has been cautious for some years now. But we ask people to be even more careful now and I asked the Prime Minister to reinforce security measures.”

Shimon Samuels, the Paris-based European Director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, declared after today’s events: “The Jewish community feels itself on the edge of a seething volcano. A culture of excuse exonerates the perpetrators as ‘disaffected, alienated, frustrated, unemployed.’ No other group of frustrated unemployed has resorted to such behavior. Until politicians and media define the problem as Jihadism, remote-controlled from mosques in France and not only the Middle East, the cancer will not be isolated and destroyed.”

Earlier on Friday, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat called his Paris counterpart Anne Hidalgo to express his condolences following the Charlie Hebdo shooting. “Jerusalem residents understand and share your grief…Everyone should understand that the brutal attack that took place in Paris is not an isolated act but part of a global terrorist campaign”, Barkat told Hidalgo, according to French Jewish website JSSNews. Hidalgo said she was “touched” by the phone call.

Obvious fact: murderous attacks on Jews by muslims in France are rapidly escalating. What is perplexing is how Jews rationalize staying in France. With what is happening, it may as well be Berlin in the early and mid-1930s. A quick read of the biographies or interviews of those who escaped or survived the Holocaust sound awfully like the same mindset as those in France now. Islamisation of Europe is underway and Jews are, at present, the primary or sole targets for murder. Those of our grandparents’ generation, who lived in Germany, had two choices; to leave or stay. I have met some of those who left and they speak sadly of those who didn’t and were exterminated. I don’t think there is anymore time to make the wrong decision.

  • Somewhat prophetic! I am working on a piece for my Blog:

    http://auschwitz.padraigh.co.uk

in which I use a words taken from Primo Levi. My on going work is on The Holocaust, and it appears its repercussions are still ato ffect us today!

“..Willingly or not we come to terms with power ..forgetting that we are all in ..ghetto. ..that ..ghetto is walled in. ..that outside ..ghetto reign ..lords of death ..and that close by ..train is waiting.” Primo Levi.

So you must see, Jews of Europe, Israeli Jews, World Jewry there is no get out clause for anyone. The World has become that Ghetto and the Train awaiting has its quota of cargo, which is not all Jewish. While not all future Victims will be Jews, All Jews WILL Be Future Victims.

I am truly sorry that the lessons we should have learned from the Holocaust are not being positively learned. For those terror groups who have aligned themselves to all manner of Terror, it is about to be imported to our own backyard. The French do not demand this! The Irish wont demand it nor does Islam promote it. Terror is not founded in Religion! It is an abstraction funded by Hatred and indifference to life!

For what Sinn Fein will say as the Terrorist lands on Irish soil and devastates some community, killing more Irish, whatever their Religious persuasion, it will stand as a Testimony to the grave injustice done by Irish terrorists in the name of The Irish People! I am against all manner of Terror. It is self defeating. I am against all bigotry! It is self inflicting! I am against All Hatred for

Lassana Bathily, a Muslim employee at the HyperChacher supermarket in Paris, saved the lives of 15 Jewish shoppers, when he hid them in the supermarket’s basement freezer after the terrorist, Amedy Coulibaly, entered the store and opened fire.

Bathily also had the presence of mind to also turn the freezer off.

Bathily’s heroic action is also apparently the reason for the uncertainty yesterday as to how many hostages there were in the store. WE NEED MORE MUSLIMS LIKE HIM. Speak out Muslims’

WHERE ARE ZE PUBLIC PROTESTS ZE FOUR SLAIN JEWS?
I took down my profile of Je Suis Charlie sign today. Why? Because I saw no throngs of French citizens today in the streets, with signs, expressing their solidarity and sadness for the Jewish lives that were taken in the shoot out at the Parisan deli. What about Je Suis Juif!”. If I were French Jew, I would get out, now— France as well as Europe in general are heading towards very dark times.
The nation of France’s silence today is most telling, but not at all surprising. I cannot be as sympathetic to the French. Yes, I feel sorry for the horrible fear that has taken over all of humanity, as we watched with horror the videos of the massacre and carnage the past two days. We have all as human beings felt the terrible loss of security. We will all suffer for this. No doubt that there will be strong reactions to this. Rightly so. But with reaction comes loss of freedom. Just as we all suffered after 911. Life changed radically since then all over the world. After that our privacy rights have been challenged. Try flying internationally and you will see what I mean.
I hate to say it, but the French are now getting what they deserve. It is they who support to this day state- funded anti-Semitism, and it is they who have for decades have supported uber socialist- leftism , including the anti Israel, Pro Palestinian movement. And again it is the French who voted many times, too many to count, at the UN, one anti-Israel resolution after another. And then there was the final blow, final stab in our collective Jewish backs on Dec 2014 to recognize a PA state.
Finally, who can forget France’s wholehearted compliance , deporting nearly 100,000 of their own Jews (Vichy government ) to Nazi concentration camps.
So I say to all my little frogs, arayn drerd arayn to you France. And Am Yisrael Chai.

WHERE ARE THE JEWISH AGENCIES WHEN WE NEED THEM_ THEY ARE FAT AND SASSY, 6 FIGURES AND BENNIES, BUT ARE THEY DOING THEIR JOB?
It is high time for The Jewish Agency for Israel and their affiliates to get up off their soft tender tushes and iPhones and come to the rescue of those Jews who are stranded in France and other countries (not the wealthy mind you who have beautiful apartments in Netanya and Ashdod). The truth is many of these lansmen are shop keepers, living day to day, trying to make ends meet, hence they are stuck in G-d awful anti-Semitic ghettos with their lives and their families in serious peril. JEWS are the hunted today.
This criticism also applies to the U.S. organization known as Jewish Federations of North America as well. They are busy supporting the left and the Arabs, but for the Jews who need it, the treatment and resources are pretty shabby.
I know personally several Jewish families who want to leave and cannot because they have no money to do so. And Nefesh B Nefesh needs to be shut down or rebuilt. It is a very hard organization for most people to use. I know myself after having to go jump thorough their ridiculous bureaucratic hoops, insulting, senseless and stupid.

If Jews keep on hiding behind the skirts of the pretend French police and fail to prepare for self defense to
preempt, they will be murdered by the Islamic beasts.
The only way to stop Islam is the way Martel used.

  • It is terrible and chocking. The French Jews must not only be cautious, but create militarized small detachments and patrol the Jewish sites, as it was in Israel in 80th. More, Israel should send to France a few dozens of trained Mossad’s members to prevent the similar acts. But all this probably should be approved by French authorities. If they don’t approve, it will show their tolerance to anti-Semitism in spite of Holland’s words.

  • Robert Weintraub

The days when French or other Jewish citizens in western Europe could safely publicly assert their Jewishness are over. This includes going to synagogue or, as recently demonstrated, shopping in a store selling kosher food or even wearing a kipah.

For those Jews, therefore, whose Jewish identity is so strong that they cannot bear not displaying it they have no choice but to leave France and other western European countries. The ruling authorities have neither the will or the ability to make the streets safe for its Jewish citizens.

  • jackson mushi

I real support Jews people, French government must make sure that Jews interests are well protected, as long as they are under threat. Long live Israel & Jewish nation

  • jackson mushi

I wonder the intelligence security in French was paralyzed by time this attacks happening. Baring in mind the magazine office was previously under threat, and once it was burnt.so French authorities are to blamed for this attacks, the information about attackers was well known, how come such dangerous people were very free and do what they want? They were supposed to be under special watch regarding their character.

There is a vital lesson to be learned in these events They have a common denominator and you can’t leave it to the Harvard educated idiot to see the link. The killers are already known.Few ever show up out of the blue. The jerks in France was known to police. The killer in Australia was known to the police. The bombers in Boston was know to the police. The killer at Ft Hood Texas was known to military officials.Just about every one of them had some kind of known problem that attracted attention. But they were left unwatched to enact a great show and murder-execution using unarmed citizen . Why were they not under observation? There are surplus combat veterans looking for work.Pay them to keep on the tail of these kind and extract the cost from the head of the immigration departments paycheck.

The French president has done very little to keep French Jews safe. 10% of France is Muslim, with terrorist cells
in the hundreds in the 721 Palestinian zones the French police try not to enter. It looks like the terrorists control France, not the French police.
    Jews should pack their belongings, close up their shops and leave. Those that don’t will suffer further attacks;
the French government will not save them. Leave France with its radical Muslims; they let them in; let them do as they pleased; they deserve what they got. It’s too late for France. It’s too late for England, Belgium,
Denmark, Sweden, Holland, etc. I pray it’s not too late
for America, Canada, Australia, etc, The Muslim terrorists are waging a holy war. If we don’t wake up and acknowledge it, we are all doomed.

What is France doing in practical terms , but wrings its hands in denial of a Islamic religious onslaught on France and its citizen. Follow Obama and say its a week end gun play.

  • Max

Jewish blood is indeed not cheap! But in order to bring some reality to that statement, in the absence of ineffective government action to protect the French Jewish minority, Jews will have to take responsibility for their own defense. They will have to establish a Jewish Defense Force (similar to the JDL or Jewish Defense League in the U.S. a few years ago) to protect major Jewish establishments and synagogues in the city and retaliate against Muslim establishments in the event of attacks on Jews. Such an action would galvanize the authorities to take more stringent measures to prevent attacks not only on Jews, but on freedom of speech and French citizens in general. Unless this happens, we will see the far right win the next elections in France, an unfortunate outcome for all citizens of that beautiful country.

  • Yoel Nitzarim

I am proud of the Israeli response to these horrible, vicious attacks against French Jews by Mr. Netanyahu and Mayor Barkat. Israel must show its empathy for those who are also victims of indiscriminate anti-Semitic terror anywhere in the world; likewise, nations, such as France, should see for themselves that Israel is not a pariah country, past part and parcel of the world community. In actuality, Israel is a leader of compassions, caring and doer of good deeds among nations!

  • WHERE ARE THE Imams who remain silent.? All Muslims should be speaking out. Where are they? Rabbi Dr. BERNHARD ROSENBERG

  • Yuri Pelham

Unfortunately I am certain that Jews are not safe in France , the government is impotent and disinterested. They all must consider emigration. Note that the perpetrators were known terrorists, one being trained by Al Qaeda in Yemen, the other hung out with ISIS in Iraq, yet the French allowed them to remain free. It’s almost they did so on purpose so that Islamists would kill Jews. Let the Jews leave then let the Muslims deal out justice to antisemitic France.

  • Eric R.

I think it’s a fairly safe bet that the Froggie police and intelligence knew about this attack on the kosher supermarket, but since the French elites share the desire of the Jihadists to exterminate the Jews, did nothing to stop it.

  • William Hausman

And on and on it will go until it’s called what it is. It’s called Islam and Jihad (not Islamism, nor radical Islam.) In addition, we all know what supports it: enforced multiculturalism and political sanction of Islamic-phobia.

  • Eco

    REALLY???????????????WHOSE IS?????????????

  • The foundation of Islam is antisemitism. The sociopath Muhammad personally decapitated 600 – 900 unarmed Jews. Muslims consider his murderous antisemitism perfect. A Muslim who does not love killing unarmed Jews is an apostate. Churchill said it best in 1899: ” Islam in a man is as dangerous as rabies in a dog”.

  • Joseph

Yes Islamic extremists always targeted the French Jewish community. But a question in my mind is: Is Islamic extremism the only, or even the predominant, problem of anti-Semitism in France? Some insight into the answer (or at least underling the question) might be had with the answers to the following two questions:
    1) In the wake of all the terrible anti-Semitic events in recent years (and decades), have any French goyim worn a button declaring “Je sues Jiu”?
2)In the wake of the terrible events of the last few days and all of the French people expressing their solidarity with the victims of the Charlie Hedbo massacre by wearing buttons declaring “Je suis Charlie”, will any French goyim now be wearing buttons declaring “Je sues Jiu”?

  • The world needs to put together immediately an International task forces to fight terrorism and Muslim extremists. It needs to be a well trained force with substantial resources and manpower as well as an International intelligence cooperation with no restriction. It has to be a unified and cohesive battle to abolish terrorism at all costs. Let the terrorists know that there is no hole they can hide in, that the world terrorist task force and other law enforcement agencies will get them wherever they are. We must shut off all their resources, financing, financial institutions and any source that supply them with any kind of support; weaponry, economic, information, etc. whatsoever.
I urge the world powers at large to take these terrorist events seriously with utmost urgency. The situation is at a critical stage and if immediate all out action is not taken in all parts of the world, terror and mayhem will take over the world and we will not be able to stop it.
Just imagine if one of those terrorist got a hold of a nuclear suitcase bomb. Do I need to describe it any further.
Is there a leader today (please stand up) in the free world who can take the bull by the horn and initiate this global war on terrorism.
    YJ Draiman

    • Dogan. Akman

While all this carnage is going on, the French are demonstrating their solidarity with the dead and the President of France keeps saying the “right things”, no one seems to ask the question as to why these abominations are happening in France and not in Germany, Holland and the U.K. to take three examples?

It is a question well worth asking because the government of France has been sitting on its hands in dealing with Islamist terrorism for a long time and trying to gain browny points with the PA and its domestic Muslims by recognising the State of Palestine in Parliament without any qualifications or reservations and voting in favour of the egregious motion placed before the UN Security Council by Jordan on behalf of the PA on the bizarre ground that the matter was urgent. As if the urgency pre-determined France’s decision to vote in favour of the motion.

What hypocrites Hollande and his ilk are. Sui generis.
