"Express Delivery: Certified and Ratified," by Nathan Moskowitz. Iran's Supreme Leader sent a secret letter to the US president in recent weeks. Photo: – Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has responded to overtures from US President Barack Obama amid nuclear talks by sending him a secret letter, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Citing an Iranian diplomat, the newspaper said Khamenei had written to Obama in recent weeks in response to a letter sent by Obama last October. Obama’s letter reportedly suggested the possibility of American-Iranian cooperation in fighting the Islamic State terror group if a nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 powers was reached. Khamenei’s letter was “respectful” but noncommittal, the Wall Street Journal quoted the diplomat as saying.

Khamenei recently defended Iranian President Hassan Rouhani against hardline Iranian opponents of the nuclear talks with the West.

“No more than a few months have passed since the Rouhani government took office,” Khamenei said. “Authorities should be given the opportunity to push forward strongly.”

Back channel communication are fine and well. This approach was used by other Presidents such as Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The problem here is that we have an anti Israel American President who seems to be determined to sign a deal with Iran no matter what the outcome. Some say its a philosophy that drives the President, while others say that the President is desperate to leave a legacy. Leaving Iran with the ability to build nuclear weapons, which they absolutely intend to do, will leave this world of ours is a dire situation that future American Presidents will need to contend with for decades.

What I don’t think the President or his advisers fail to consider is that the legacy he leaves will be a scourge to the world and an existential threat to Israel, not to mention a fully nuclear armed Middle East. I can’t imagine the other Arab states in the Middle East sitting by and allowing an Islamist extremist state to possess nuclear weapons and obtain these same weapons as a deterrence.

Its time that President Obama took a hard look at reality and understand that the legacy he leaves by signing a bad deal with Iran, it that his name will be connected to to this fiasco for ever. Once the genie is out of the bottle, there is no way to put it back. Just look at North Korea.

There is no such thing as a secret letter in politics. This letter was leaked for a reason. It is journalism’s purpose to find it out.
