Luxury hotel condominium Trump Soho is being sued for serving a non-kosher sandwich to an Orthodox Jew and pretending it was kosher, the New York Post reported on Friday.

According to the lawsuit, Upper West Side resident Dan Miller paid $146 for a hot kosher meal but was instead given a cold non-kosher turkey sandwich. The hotel then “created an elaborate hoax” to deceive him and cover up their mistake, he said in his lawsuit.

As he waited for his specially ordered lunch at a business conference at the hotel, he reminded the staff that his food needs to be double wrapped until it is delivered, as per kosher laws. An employee responded, “Yes, of course, we are very familiar with the kosher rules, we do it all the time.”

When the cold turkey sandwich arrived in a single piece of Saran wrap, Miller was suspicious as it was not correctly wrapped according to Jewish law and had no kosher seal, which is customary of kosher food served on planes and at other public venues. The server reassured him the food was fine for him to eat but Miller, the son of a rabbi, said he was still skeptical.

Other employees assured Miller that the lunch was purchased at the kosher Noah’s Ark restaurant located on Grand Street, the suit says.

When the Yeshiva University graduate began to eat the sandwich, he noticed that it didn’t taste like food he had previously eaten at Noah’s Ark. He proceeded to call the Grand Street establishment, which informed him that they had not made any deliveries to Trump Soho that day. Miller also e-mailed a photo of the sandwich to Noah’s Ark and workers confirmed the meal was not from their eatery.

Although the hotel chef promised to send Miller a copy of the Noah’s Ark receipt the next day, a Trump Soho food and beverage manager finally admitted that the food wasn’t kosher and was made in the hotel’s kitchen because the establishment forgot to order the special meal.

“The hotel staff panicked and inappropriately responded by serving him a non-kosher meal that was made to appear kosher,” the suit says.

Miller is “furious” about the lies that caused him to commit “a serious violation of Jewish law — consuming non-kosher meat,” his suit states. He is also concerned that the bread was dairy, which violates another Jewish dietary law of not mixing meat and dairy.

“It is simply inconceivable for any orthodox Jew, like Dan Miller, to eat a non-kosher meat sandwich,” Miller says in his suit. He blames Trump Soho for not properly training its staff about kosher laws and he is suing for unspecified damages.

Representatives for Trump Soho have not commented on the lawsuit, according to the New York Post.

I’m sure they charged him the $146.00 for his lunch, they didn’t forget to do that.

Trump is a momzer and no one should give him any money. Why further his assault on society?

I have had similar things happen as have we all. It’s not the end of the world, but you can certainly see it from here.

    • Neil

Trump is a momzer? That is a very serious charge and the Donald should sue you! The Donald is very respectful of Jews and his daughter is married to a Jew. She has converted to Judaism. Laws regarding Kashrut have been violated unintentionally by the most observant Jews. It happened in my own family. An apology was given and fair and just compensation will be made.

I agree. I think you’re looking for big money which you don’t deserve. If you choose to eat in a non kosher restaurant, those are the chances you take. Trump has nothing to do with this.
It’s happened to me a few times in business meetings, and I accepted the apology. I should not have eaten in those places, and had my lunch later in the day. It’s a good way for you to make a fortune, but be a mensch instead. DON’T EAT IN NON KOSHER RESTAURANTS, SON OF A RABBI, IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE OF THE KASHRUT!

A woman in Boise, Idaho, is facing felony charges after police say she attacked a Jewish woman and stomped on her neck as part of a bizarre bid to convert her to Christianity.

According to local television channel KTVB, the woman, identified as 58-year-old Margurite Dawn Haragan, has been charged with two counts of malicious harassment in an attack police have labeled a hate crime.

Prosecutors say the incident started when Haragan showed up at the victim’s home February 5. It’s not clear how the two women know each other.

“The defendant was banging on the front window yelling at her that she better believe in Jesus and she was not going to leave until she did believe in Jesus,” Ada County Prosecutor Dave Roscheck said, according to KTVB.

He added that the victim, identified in court only as “A.G.,” opened her door to tell Haragan to leave and to write down her license plate number.

That’s when the suspect slapped her in the face and dragged her to the ground by her hair, Roscheck said.

“The defendant began kicking the victim in the stomach and thigh area,” he said. “During this time the defendant was screaming at the victim that she better accept Jesus or she would not let up.”

Prosecutors say Haragan stepped onto A.G.’s neck as she lay on the ground, pressing down with her foot and pulling up on the woman’s head and hair. Eventually, the woman said she would become a Christian in an attempt to placate her attacker and Haragan let her go, according to the prosecutor.

Court documents allege, however, that Haragan returned to the victim’s home two days later, carving “death bin bond” into her mailbox and cutting up her mail.

Haragan was arrested Wednesday night on a felony warrant. In court Thursday, she told a judge she did not understand what she was being charged with, she did not want a public defender, and she would not hire her own lawyer.

Judge John Hawley decided to appoint the suspect a public defender anyway, the report said, and Roscheck asked the judge to set a high bond and order Haragan to stay away from the victim.

“The state is concerned for the safety of the victim if this bond is lowered, especially if the defendant was able to make bond,” he said.

Hawley agreed, keeping the suspect’s bond at $100,000 and issuing a no-contact order barring Haragan from talking to A.G. or going near her.

If convicted of malicious harassment, Haragan could face up to five years in prison for each count. A preliminary hearing has been set for February 26.

America has proven not to be immune from the skyrocketing global anti-Semitism, as several severe cases of violence targeting Jews have occurred in recent months.

Just last weekend in Madison, Wisconsin, some 30 homes were spray-painted with swastikas and anti-Semitic expressions.

In September, a yeshiva in the New Jersey town of Lakewood was broken into by a vandal who defaced the Jewish study hall with swastikas and other anti-Semitic hate symbols.

In early August, 60-year-old Rabbi Joseph Raksin hy”d was shot to death as he walked to a local synagogue in Miami, Florida. Reportedly Raksin was shot by two young African-American men who fled the scene after the murder

I will never patronize any company owned by or doing business with Trump’s empire. This is entirely unacceptable behavior by Trump Soho. As for trying to avoid the law suit, Trump Soho is presenting the situation as a mistake by training staff which is not properly trained in kosher laws. What a weak attempt to dodge responsibility.

  • DocReality

Not really worth a law-suit. That’s almost as crazy as the Muslims. He should get reimbursed for the entire meal along with a month’s free rent from Mr. Trump. We don’t need to be tying up courts w/b.s. like this.

  • Hotel in the wrong

Miller had a difficult choice, but he made the right choice. The hotel knew about kosher, he didn’t want to insult them by saying no, and he didn’t want to make all Jews look like fanatics. Its the hotel’s sin, not his. Hotel should pay.

  • Stupid is as Stupid does. I hope Mr. Miller collects thousands.

These days it seems to be quite the style to sue someone or some business entity for just about everything including frivolous. If he got his money back because of the stink he created, good for him. If not if i was the justice hearing the case based on this article, he didn’t eat the sandwich, he only bit into it, and he didn’t suffer because he refused to eat it….and if he did “Shame on Him”. Being an original Christian, i would have just asked for my money back and said a prayer for the staff. I would have mentioned it to management, and just get up and leave. Adding a lawsuit to a sandwich is a wast of the Justice’s time: I would rule that you weren’t damaged and you get your money back, case dismissed. You cannot expect people who know absolutely about the rituals you put yourselves through just to eat a meal, let alone understand what Kosher really means. YOU, need to educate the people that will be serving YOU and ask them to insure your stay is easy & comfortable. Making a stink like this lawsuit is showing me that you are unforgiving and greedy. Sorry, but that is my take on the issue. Christ admonished the Pharisee’s and Sadducees for observing the laws of men instead of the laws of GOD.

    • Janet

He was observing the laws of G-d…read your bible. He is Jewish NOT an original christian

the hotel does not need dishonest employees. it should discipline them and/or dismiss them. while the offense to the guest cannot really be “annulled,” the hotel can and should do something: The guest is owed a very serious apology and some compensation, at least a token of the genuine regret of the hotel management. were the management to make the right move now, the guest, for his part, should display some magnanimity.

  • Trump is guilty of a fraud ,but Mr.Miller was a fool who should have know better about situations like this.

  • Signe Knapp

His kitchen staff isn’t too energetic when it comes to problem solving . I’m sure a kosher turkey sandwich could have been purchased within 20 minutes had the kitchen manager put forth any effort. Mr. Trump, I need a job!
