Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem on Saturday night on the eve of his departure for the United States where he will deliver a historic speech to Congress on Tuesday, March 3 at the invitation of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) about the Iranian nuclear threat.

“On the eve my trip to the US, I came here to the Western Wall,” the Israeli prime minister said, after praying briefly at Judaism’s holiest site, with his hands resting on the wall.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say that I respect US President Barack Obama. I believe in the strength of the relationship between Israel and the US and in their strength to overcome differences of opinion, those that have been and those that will yet be.”

During his visit to the wall, hours before boarding a flight to Washington, Netanyahu also spoke of his commitment to Israel’s security.

“As Prime Minister of Israel, it is my obligation to see to the security of Israel; therefore, we strongly oppose the agreement being formulated with Iran and the major powers, which could endanger our very existence.”

“In the face of this danger we must unite and also explain the dangers stemming from this agreement, to Israel, to the region and to the world,” he said.

Last week, addressing a delegation of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem, Netanyahu highlighted his belief that no responsible Israeli prime minister could refuse to speak to Congress about a matter so vital to Israel’s security.

“Why am I going to Congress?’ asked Netanyahu. “Because Israel has been offered the chance to make its case on this crucial issue before the world’s most important parliament; because a speech before Congress allows Israel to present its position to the elected representatives of the American people and to a worldwide audience; because Congress has played a critical role in applying pressure to the Iranian regime — the very pressure that brought the ayatollahs to the negotiating table in the first place, and because Congress may well have a say on any final deal.”

There is on mistake no person should make and that is to believe that the incorrectness of one view, one story and one course of action somehow validates one’s own.

That is Zionism’s greatest error, and that is the error I see Netanyahu making. His speaking before Congress under such politically engineered circumstances puts his entire Worldview on the agenda for scrutiny in the finest detail

He may well want only the Uranium enrichment be discussed and evaluated – but what he is doing is opening out the whole situation, awakening every sleeping dog. The entire Israeli Government agenda is now a subject for universal evaluation. I would have advised against such a move, as unwise in the extreme

Nevertheless Democracy demands he have the right to be unwise in his speaking, and on that basis I wish him a polite reception, however rejecting of his words, and a safe return from his travels.

    • What is so wrong about Zionism? Your comment makes so sense. He was invited by Boehner. the White House was told, and then it got on its high horse and tried to discredit him ( Israel. Perrsonally, I believe, Netanyahi has to pull a Begin.

No matter who is addressing a joint session of Congress, OR EITHER HOUSE, the guest’s ‘world view’ will be ‘under scrutiny’.
If anything Benjamin will seize the day, fully realizing the importance of such a rare chance to address senior members of one of Israel’s staunchest allies.
The fact that the same body of individuals gives money to criminals (Hamas, PA), to wage war AND PROMOTE HATE seems to be lost on many.
My real point is that Palestinians and those others who descended from Palestine, (meaning world Jewry), all had the same chance to prosper in Palestine post 1945, but only Jews actually are prospering.
This is a significant statement on cultural values.
Muslim Palestinians seem to believe in mass that they can be abusive and indulge in dis-associative behaviors without consequence. This is destroying Palestine and it’s youth today!
Reality is that each act of violence and resultant trauma takes longer to recover from with so many bodies in close proximity to each other. When compounded by repeated acts of violence so often, the result is a mass psychosis.
The dis-associative self identity results in outcomes less and less likely over time to be seen as an equitable peace (because of the dis-associative delusions), and as Hamas states, leads them to support the criminal position of terror against Israel, ultimately driving Jews into the sea.
      Pure criminal behavior!
But Benjamin, despite this, needs to control his hubris. It is a mixed crowd with diverse interests and takes a bit of the performers touch to balance all the conflicting positions.
      Have a little faith.
The boycott movement has lost momentum with schools and organizations, mostly as result of Hamas’ criminal behavior last year, but the good news is that the PA is likely to put it’s head in a noose it fashioned.
The PA wants to join the ICC in the Hague and will thus be subject to it!
Even Arafat wasn’t foolish enough to shoot himself in the head.
