Saudi Arabia has quietly signed a nuclear cooperation agreement with South Korea, according to The Wall Street Journal, reigniting fears that  U.S. nuclear negotiations with Iran might drive a Middle East nuclear arms race.

The Saudi deal with South Korea will explore the feasibility of building two nuclear reactors in Saudi Arabia over the next 20 years, according to the report.

Saudi Arabia has consistently voiced worry over the U.S. negotiations with Iran, and has been sending signals that it will seek to develop its own nuclear technology should Iran continue with its nuclear program.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Saudi Arabia might even seek to “buy an atomic bomb…if it sees an agreement with Iran as too weak.”

Some believe that Pakistan has already made nuclear weapons for Saudi Arabia. The BBC reported in 2013 that such weapons are “ready for delivery” to the Saudis should Iran cross the nuclear threshold.

The Obama Administration is working to quell Saudi worries about its negotiations with Iran. Secretary of State John Kerry even flew to Saudi Arabia earlier in the month to convince the Sunni nation that the current nuclear negotiations will not lead to Iranian hegemony over the Middle East.

  • We are on the brink! The House of Saud has been untrustworthy from its inception. Anyone who thought otherwise is naive. All other Gulf States will back Saudi and those who Shia will back Iran. Isis is a combination of the damn lot only no one is addressing this. The sooner it is over the better for us all and let us hope like mad Islam will finally be wiped out. Sunni and Shia can blow themselves out of the planet for all I care. Finally thank goodness Israel is smart enough to have early warning systems and can intercept and redirect NCB’s from where they come from.

The M.A.D. policy only works when none of the nations involved are actually mad. Let’s hope that’s the case.

Do you like wearing the shoe on the other foot?

Try substituting “Obammy” for “a commie” at 01:18

  • The horrible thing is that USA let Obama win through cheating twice and it apparently will be the same with Hillary. Why do they refuse do demand photo-ID for election? These last two times many voted many times, and also dogs and dead voted.

  • Elere

this is one of BIBI’s claims. He has not even completed his speech and this is happen. It is high time the so called World woke up from slumber to reality

  • Does anyone remember Jacobs Ladder Dream???? Obama was one of the people coming under off the ladder. There is no such thing as coincident about what is happening today. We are all to busy counting our Euros, Yens, and Dollars. These currencies have become everyone’s modern day G-d.
The day is coming in your s and my life time that all the streets around the world will be flooded with useless currency which we all will use as toilet paper. Mark my words…………thats a promise!!!!

  • chengez K

High time Israel takes a historic initiative and announce a Nuclear free Middle East…….this would leave IRAN with no excuse….

  • Everyone on talking on this topic should watch the show DIG on USA network. This is what we should all be truly afraid of. There are some inaccuracies here but the underlining though is both gravely scary and harshly truthful. Hashem knowns who he is giving Nuclear weapons to.

  • Jim Delaney

OF COURSE the Saudis want–and need–to develop their nuclear capabilities. Any flimsy, incredulous Obama-Kerry assurances to the contrary, Saudi Arabia and other Sunni countries in the ME correctly see Shia Iran as an existential threat to their very survival.

Let’s hope adults replace the current clowns in the White House and State Department 2017. We can only hope that it won’t be too late by then.

    • Braham

It is ok to call Obama & Kerry clowns, but the alternatives are a sight worse. Right wing ‘publicans’ as one British journalist described them. The Tea party people or short of tin-pot socialists Everyone mus stop hurling insults.
Are there any adults in political circles?

To modify the statement that Captain Renault(Claude Rains) expressed in the 1942 movie “Casablanca, “I am shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here”( as a croupier hands Renault a pile of money): The US is shocked, shocked to find that Iran is preparing a nuclear weapon,(as the US would OK a 10 year moratorium for its construction).

    • Frank white

      Mr. Delaney,
It is a shame you think more nuclear powers are the answer. Please explain your promotion of Sunni Islam. What is the difference between Shia and Sunni Islam? And while you are googling things, compare the amount of American deaths at the hands of Sunni militias compared to Shia followers. Perhaps do some research on topics through books instead of regurgitating mainstream media talking points of misinformation.

  • Can you really blame them? They know and understand the threat that Iran presents even now. What will they be like with nuclear weapons?

  • Jack

the way House of Saud and Tehran treat each other one would think they are natural enemies in the animal kingdom.

  • Kerry M Berger

Escalating an arms race in this region is disturbing. It would be far better for Israel to come clean about its own nuclear capabilities and work with the Saudis to check-mate Iran.

    • Elere

your suggestion is wrong. weather Israel has nuclear weapon or not have ever heard the Nation threaten to destroy any Nation? Even when the Nation was faced with fierce battle from her Arabs neighbor? What a pathetic race is the Arabs?

  • So why say you might buy, with the Saudis unfathomable cash reserves, between the lines to me it is already a done deal.
Thank G_d the Saudis like their Palaces,Jewels and million dollar cars more than fundamentalist radical Muslims, or am I wrong were not the 18 people who attacked the on 9.11 Saudi ?
In such a closed secular country, we can only speculate.
The Saudis have never let their left hand know why their right foot is doing, I feel stating this now is an admission they all ready have them.
    Shalom

  • Paul Cerar

The enemy does not have to “shoot” a nuclear missile at us. They can put a bomb onto a ship or truck, and deliver it to our doorstep.

Ha ha !!!!!!!!! Was this done under the watchful eye of Uncle Sam so as not to tarnish the image( if there is one left under current leadership ).

They must really think that the whole world is stupid and gullible. ( The old classic – Gullible’s Travels ).

  • The irresponsible policies of Mr OBAMA may very well prove to be a terrible danger to the very survival of mankind and to western civilisation !

    • Bill P

Obama is a saint compared with Bush who started two wars. He lied to his country to start the Iraq war. Consequently he WASTED 5000 American lives. Thank god for Obama!

  • arne normann

..if an axcident shuld happen or a nuclear war between shia and sunni shuld occure it is as far as possible away from USA.

  • richard sherwin

nuclear umbrellas dont mean much if theyre opened AFTER the 1st nuclear rains (4 ‘drops’ would do in Saudi Arabia, and Iran already has the missiles for it)… and that might console any survivors ONLY if beforehand they were sure some future USA president would actually drop an abomb on the agressors, instead of asking them why they did it, and didnt they think they shouldnt have, and it’s really not very nice, logical, et al, to have done so, and….. (you can fill in the rest of the left wing ideology used on people who are your real allies or people youre too scared of to stand up to).

it seems clear that after x number of years the obama administrators dont really know (or perhaps care enough to know) how the Middle East of Shiah and sunni really works… look at how theyre letting Egypt –the only moslem powerhouse trying to cut down international terrorism and alter moslem medieval approaches to the Koran….’hang in the wind’…. while
    getting close to iran.

granted the USA is broke (if one takes the national debt literally) and cant really afford to do the dirty work of the ultra rich moslem oil countries it’s in hock to…. and is trying rather successfully to get the moslems to defend themselves…. but….

or and… the double talk of nuclear umbrellas is fitting ironically to match up with the saudi double talk of pro americanism on the one hand and supporting antiwestern international educational and religious schools on the other…

so no one’s really surprise the saudis are buying pakistani and south korean nuclear stuff… so just what is NEWS about this anyway….?

news would be if the US govt helped Sisi….

  • A nuclear-armed Iran puts the whole world in danger.
Nuclear-armed jihadi terrorists are the greatest threat our civilization may ever face.

Bibi’s address to a joint session of the US Congress this week 3.3.2015 was appropriate and necessary. There are some who have ears but they do not hear and eyes but could not see. Such people said and asserted that Bibi said “nothing new”. There is an adage which says “a dog that is destined to get lost will not hear the hunter’s whistle”. Majority of Americans heard the whistle, loud and clear on Tuesday, when Benjamin Netanyahu delivered his speech about terrorist Iran’s acquiring nuclear capabilities is a threat to the world at large.
We must learn to face reality and not delude ourselves to wishful thinking.
Iran the destabilizing factor in the Middle East and beyond..
The PM stated the greatest dangers facing our world is the marriage of militant Islam with nuclear weapons.”
A nuclear-armed Iran puts the whole world in danger.
Nuclear-armed jihadi terrorists are the greatest threat our civilization may ever face.
Radical Islam is not just a threat to American and Israel. It is a threat to Western Civilization everywhere. Unless the West wakes up now before it’s too late and stops this evil.
Do you want prevent nuclear terror? Do you care about you children and your family’s future? Vote for nuclear free Iran.
A terrorist state must not be permitted to possess nuclear capability.
Iran already controls; Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Gaza, etc. how much more before we stop them from devouring the Middle East and more.
When Israel takes defensive action for its survival. Israel would rather be condemned for its actions as a live Israel than eulogized as a dead Israel.

This deal is not physical by it self. And I do not see any relationship between this deal and nuclear race. Non could change the nuclear engineering principles to suite different motivated writers.

Yet I have not observed any nation bought a ready made nuclear weapon.

Would it be more desireable to be realistic on scientific basis not just ordinary people common sense ..thanks

  • The problem with Obama and his henchmen like Kerry is that they don’t have any credibility. As such, the Saudis and other countries in the middle east concerns are not going to be squelched simply by mere words, which is all that Obama is offering. Obama is trying to get his deal with Iran pushed through as a non binding resolution. This would side step the necessity for the proposal to get approval from the congress in order to pass. As each day passes, we are seeing more and more proof just how radical Obama truly is.

  • Yoel Nitzarim

The cat is out of the bag! Obama is playing with fire, and his hands have potentially sullied the Middle East. I, for one, am not sleeping well at night because my current residence is ground zero, the capital of Israel, Jerusalem, a place that he does not even recognise exists!

  • Julian Clovelley

What on Earth? – All this has nothing to do with Netanyahu, Obama, current negotiations, Father Christmas or the price of fish. Saudi Arabia expressed intention to build nuclear power plants long ago. in fact the suggested number is 16 not two. In addition the UAE have three reactors in the planning stage

All the states concerned – but especially Saudi Arabia – have experience massive increases in population size. In order to supply the world’s oil needs they are depleting their main energy source. Small wonder that they are turning to nuclear power.

There are even low level uranium deposits known in the region. All this article seems to be about is panicking the electorates in the US and Israel into voting for the Right.

    • Jack

      true dat. many, many years.

    • Jack

Despite the internal upheaval from the demographic shift, along with the depletion of their aquifers, decreased demand for energy is not in the cards for the Saudi.
With so much solar available it is a shame that costly, (when clean up is considered), dirty nuclear energy may be the cheapest choice currently.

  • At least now the world will not criticize PM Benjamin Netanyahu

    • Braham

Why not? He is also Politicking for his own approval ratings! Let Israel decide and let the American electorate decide. Moreover we in the UK have no right to criticize, we ourselves are in the midst of a crazy election, at least Obama does not interfere here like his predecessor. We may have to scrap our independent nuclear deterent if Labour win with the Scottish nationalists holding the balance of power.

  • Jonah

More nukes for the middle east….good news for the White House. More nukes increases exponentially the chances for the take down of Israel. Oh they may appear to act as if it is unsettling to them but beleive me they are elated. They created and armed IsIs through Bengazi now they have to fight a war they created by giving autonomous control for the arming of every terrorist organization on this earth to our president. Every weapon put in the hands of most of the organizations fighting IsIs will inevitably be aimed at Israel. You are fighting the phantom menace every time Israel dodges the bullet he finds another way to morph into something more dangerous. He is like the aids virus but much more dangerous.

  • Harry McNicholas

This is not news. The Saudis have had nukes for years. They have a secret nuke plant in the central desert of Saudi Arabia. Both they and Israel have nukes, everyone knows but nobody says anything.
