Top Democratic pollster and political strategist Douglas Schoen weighed in on yesterday’s Israeli election in an interview with The Algemeiner on Wednesday, calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decisive victory a “stunning rebuke to President Obama.”

The election was a “stunning comeback” for Netanyahu, Schoen said, and “a stunning rebuke to President Obama, who did everything within his power to defeat the prime minister.”

Schoen was political adviser to President Clinton and is considered one of the inventors of overnight polling. He added that Netanyahu will almost certainly be able to form a government in the nation’s parliamentary system, and credited Netanyahu’s eleventh hour comeback to the prime minister’s opposition to a Palestinian state.

“His last minute pledge to oppose a Palestinian state almost certainly made up the difference, in that  he [Netanyahu] was trailing by 2-3 seats at the weekend,” Schoen told The Algemeiner.

In the final tally, Netanyahu’s Likud party scored 30 seats in Israel’s Knesset, six ahead of its chief rival the Zionist Union, which scored 24 seats.

Too bad the American people didn’t rebuke Obama in 2012!!

The election has shown that Obama is not very concerned about the safty of Israel, his wish to have a Palestinian State, ignoring the need for self defence of Hamas and Hizbollah, shows his true colors.

  • Congratulations to the Israeli people; in the decisive hour, they made the right choice between a seasoned leader with a sturdy backbone and the delusional leftists who refuse to see that there is no place for a second Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria (the first being Jordan); that in fact the Palestinians are the only group on earth claiming to need two states; that in fact any entity that has in its charter as the main goal for its existence the destruction of a legitimate state that is home to a democratic, innovative and productive people ought to be irrevocably expelled from what is called “the community of nation.” Judea and Samaria are integral parts of the sovereign territory of the Jewish people given to them at the Treaty of San Remo (1920), which has the weight of international law. Naftali Bennett is said to have been jeered because his party did not manage to get the number of seats in the Knesset expected by the experts,(maybe we ought to look for better experts) but he will be an important part of the new government; he will continue the perfectly legal settlements and eventually claim Judea and Samaria as part of the sovereign land of Israel as intended by the Treaty of San Remo, recognized by all but some Muslim states.

Dear Douglas Schoen I also have a view similar to you. I believe every 19th century US Presidents have committed grave mistakes during their tenure and as a result others have suffered lot.Obama spent millions of US dollars to defeat Netanyahu to promote his agenda of ‘two states theory’ The two states theory means opening the door of Israel for the terror organizations that can create a hell in Israel/or creating chaos in Israel. Obama has the Muslim route have the soft corner for Iranian authority ignoring the security of Israel at the cost of Nuclear deal with Iran. US-Iran nuclear deal is not in the interest of a small nation Israel.

There is NO BiBi & Obama…the charade is now over!!!
They never connected and now they really hate each other…so Benny can only keep quiet and wait it out until Obama’s gone!!!
As an American Democrat I can say Obama has turned out to be a first class PUTZ as far as Israel is concerned…I’m sorry we voted for him….of course the alternative wasn’t good either!!! If the Republicans can put up a decent candidate this time we are all switching just to show the Democrats that they don’t have the Jewish vote in their pockets…they have to earn it…which is what the Repubs have done!!!

  • I wish we could trade Obama for Netanyahu.

While the surprising victory by the Likud Party may seem to many to be an endorsement of Binyamin Netanyahu, I view it more of a rebuke to President Obama and his misdirected policies that place the very existence of the Jewish state at risk. Certainly our president should not be surprised to find that the majority of Israelis do not trust him nor support his actions.

  • RobiMac

That’s just one more thing Obama should be arrested for. Interfering in another nations politics. But hey, I was thrilled to see Obama picking himself up off his heinie where Yahweh knocked him. It will also be fun to see Jarrett try to make good on her threat that if Bibi was reelected, Israel would ‘pay a price’ because I want to see Yahweh do the same to her.

The egocentric approach by the WH misses an important point..The Israeli people are a soverign nation which asserted its own right to have a say in its future. The people have realized that after 20+ yrs peace is no closer, though most of the “west bank” was given to the PA,with tens of billions of $ armaments, and an standing army of 60,000 (plus a reserve force several times larger) trained by the US. The Israeli public also learned that US guarantees are worthless. THe WH has libeled Israel, and lied to Israel and solely blamed Israel for the failure of Kerrys’ crusade for peace Though abbas walked out, after getting yet more concessions. Sorry Obama free people do not have to kow tow to you

Will pollsters never learn that their work is speculative. Netanyahu was not trailing in reality–only in the polls. Proof is that the exit polls were wrong. Of course pollsters will attribute this to miraculous changes in the electorate, not to flawed polling technology. People do not always tell the truth when they are voting against the tide of their “friends”, and the sample is self-selected in that not everyone asked chooses to respond. Some of the wisest politicians and business leaders know to ignore “Public opinion”. Steve Jobs has said quite a lot on this topic.

  • Am glad to see that the people choose their leader. BIBI understands terrorism, lived it almost daily for years along with his people. All they want is a free world like we have , though ours isn’t very sound any more, since 2009. Israel people know that this PR cares about safety of their country and themselves. We do not have that in our American leader. He tends to lean towards leaders that have terrorists.

Obama is simply an Islamic apologist and an unqualified, destructive player. Pray for the USA!

  • Fred

Obama has proven in his hypocritical appeasement of Iran that he is not the great man but an illusionist. The US has got a wake up call through Netanyahu.

  • Ben Lopez

    GOOD for netanyahu!

  • Werner Strasser

Yes, it was a stunning and a much deserved victory. But make no mistake. It will have consequences. The highest level of scorched earth tactics by a scorn looser, Obama, are in waiting!

  • Rick Hester

God Bless Israel, the Jewish people, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

  • Zipory

Yes. B Hussein got sucker punched and it might turn into a knockout. There are investigations both in the US Senate and here in Israel regarding his blatant involvement in the elections in particular the anti Bibi campaigns. I look forward to seeing him meet with Netanyahu in the future and having to pretend he’s enjoying every minute of it. Should be quite a show. 🙂

I have always thought that a two state solution is insane/ Looking at a map, I wondered how Gaza and the West Bank which are being claimed for the Palestinian state, will connect one to the other. Remeember Pakistan was once two parts – Pakistan which we know today and the prt which ultimately became Bangladesh. Impossible to create one state such as proposed, unless the idea is to squeeze Israel from a two pronged two p[ronged front. I agree with Bibi that such a solution would be suicide, especially since there is such hostility. To return to the pre 1967 is inviting the Israelis to commit suicide. How this insane idea came about, I dont know, but it seems it was done by a non thinking agitator.

Obama made own bed and now he must sleep in it! The EU is dysfunctional and can go to hell!

The only hope for mankind lies in preventing a nuclear arms race in the mideast. With nuclear arms in the hands of those who love life, we can count on ‘mutually assured destruction’ to deter those with nukes from using them. If those who love death obtain nuclear capability, ‘mutually assured destruction’ will be their goal.

  • Do you want prevent nuclear terror? Do you care about you children and your family’s future? Vote for nuclear free Iran.
A terrorist state must not be permitted to possess nuclear capability.
Iran already controls; Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Gaza, etc. how much more before we stop them from devouring the Middle East and more.
When Israel takes defensive action for its survival. Israel would rather be condemned for its actions as a live Israel than eulogized as a dead Israel.

Based on this recent election I expect to see Israel will be taking a much stronger and defiant approach to Obama and the those EU snakes

    • noellsq

I hate to say this but I bet China steps in to replace USA. The POTUS cannot be trusted,an example would be no support for Crimea and the Ukraine. Didn’t support the Kurds with adequate weapons he is a mean and vindictive person. Israel will have to produce their own ammunition and other things that they buy from USA. It is amazing that all are allies in the Middle East are starting to secure other weapons from other countries with the money we give them

I hope so. Israel is the bravest country in the world, the best democracy and the PM Netanyahu loves his country and is willing to fight for its freedom.
He is intelligent, diplomatic, just the contrary to obama who hates the US and tries to do everything to destroy the country
