Ambassador Ron Prosor said the UN is ignoring the murder of minorities in the Arab world. Photo: Wikimedia Commons. – The international community is turning a blind eye to the murder of minorities in the Arab world, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor told a meeting of a 15-nation council on minorities in the region.

“Last year police in Saudi Arabia stormed a Christian prayer meeting and arrested its entire congregation, including women and children. … In 2013, three Iranian Christians were caught selling bibles, found guilty of ‘crimes against state security,’ and sentenced to 10 years in prison,” Prosor said Friday.

The Israeli envoy said that while minorities are persecuted and slaughtered throughout the region, “There is only one place in the Middle East where minorities have the freedom to practice their faith, to change faiths, or to practice no faith at all—and that is Israel.”

“It’s time for the UN Security Council to break its silence on the murder and expulsion of Christians and other minorities in Arab states,” said Prosor, who noted that since Hamas seized Gaza in 2007, half of the Christian community there has fled. Since the Palestinian Authority took control of Bethlehem in 1995, the city’s Christian population has dropped by nearly 70 percent, he added.

Even the Jewish-state aids and trains regimes that perpetrate Genocide and exterminations small defenseless people groups around the world in the name of defense and technology pacts and treaties. All these things are being done, forgetting what they underwent in Germany and Europe. All people are same!, they cry foul when they are mistreated, but do the same or aid others to do the same when they come up. So, like Jesus said, the Jewish-state and its people should cast the first stone if they are free of sins.

kanaikaal irumporai – The Israeli ambassador calls for acknowledgement and action against the slaughter of Christians in Arab lands and recognition of Christian flight from Gaza and once majority populated Bethlehem. What have you offered in response to this article? Absolutely nothing. You’ve simply used it as a springboard for your own personal agenda. You show no concern, let alone empathy, for these Christians because you have none. Much like the U.N. You’re both a disgrace.

Actually, kanaikaal, you are wrong. Israel does not aid or train regimes that practice genocide. You sloganize in easy generalizations that have no factual basis. This is a malicious fantasy that says more about you than anything in the real world.

But even if Israel, regionally isolated and constantly threatened existentially as it is, did do that in some exceptional case to keep good relations with one of its few stalwart allies, it would be more justified than almost any other state in the world. None other is so threatened with annihilation and it needs every friend it can find. But what excuse does the U.N. itself, and all the nations in it including some of the most powerful on earth, have to ignore such things and even, as is shown daily, glorify monstrous regimes with massive human rights crimes never criticised in the U.N. forums? We read, for example, that Iran has just been elected head of the Women’s Rights Commission in the U.N. that monitors oppression of women around the world. Sudan, which committed genocide against two different peoples in its territories, was praised and honored in the U.N. Human Rights Council, on which Saudi Arabia, China, Russia and other vicious states sit.

Beyond that, Dale K. is right that your slur is a transparent attempt to cover over the actual continuing slaughter of Christians in Arab lands.

  • It seems not only the UN ignores the draconian persecution of Christians in the Muslim world, but the EU and others also seem very quiet. The senior Saudi cleric has called for the destruction of all Churches in the Arabian peninsula. Iran arrests Christians for using wine [alcohol] in their communion service. Churches are attacked and Christians killed across the Muslim world. Now that almost all the ‘Saturday People’ have left the Islamic world, the new victims are the ‘Sunday People’. Israel, the one Middle East state with a growing Christian population, is nonetheless the most targetted state for human rights issues.

Ron makes a valid point that is long overdue in the view of many.
