Stanford University turned down a demand from the local chapter of anti-Israel group Students for Justice in Palestine to divest its endowment holdings of certain companies that do business in Israel, the university said in a statement released on Wednesday.

Stanford’s Board of Trustees said it evaluated the request over the last several months but concluded that “the university’s mission and its responsibility to support and encourage diverse opinions would be compromised by endorsing an institutional position on either side of an issue as complex as the Israel-Palestine conflict,” according to the announcement.

Stanford’s Students for Justice in Palestine had called on the university to “divest its holdings in certain companies that they claim profit from human rights abuses and violations in international law in Israel/Palestine,” according to the school’s statement.

During deliberations, the Board said it reflected on Stanford’s diverse community of faculty, staff, students and alumni that are “highly engaged on all sides” of the conflict. The Board noted that, “a diversity of viewpoints and Stanford’s commitment to open, thoughtful and civil debate are critical to the educational mission of the university.”

Further explaining its decision, the university referenced its policy on investment responsibility, which says if a trustee action “is likely to impair the capacity of the university to carry out its education mission (for example, by causing significant adverse action on the part of governmental or other external agencies or groups, or by causing deep divisions within the university community), then the Trustees need not take such action.”

WHO are these students????? mostly arabs and other muslims, plus their supporters neo-nazis. These students should be kicked out out of Stanford.
How young children like them can influence university managements ???
These stupid kids know nothing about politics, nothing about israel, nothing about history, nothing about world, they don’t even know nothing about american history and their own history of countries where they came from.
These children should be prohibited from demonstrating on any imaginable issue and subject.

I AM ELATED THAT THE STANFORD’S GOVERNING BODY DISMISSED STUDENTS’ FOR JUSTICE JN PALESTINE DEMAND FOR DIVESTMENT. I ALWAYS THOUGHT STANFORD’S STUDENT BODY WAS COMPOSED OF BRIGHT PEOPLE. I SURMISE THAT SOME ARE NOT THAT BRIGHT BUT HATEFUL. THIS IS ANTI-SEMITISM. WHAT IS THIS GROUP’S COMPOSITION?

  • Lauren Goldman

Yay Stanford! The photo is unusual in that the people in it are not masked, unlike so many participants in pro-‘palestine’ actions on campuses.

  • Tyner Doude

What I find sad Is education is very important. A big part of education is History and history clearly shows the Palistaning people are mostly transplants from Egypt or Jordan … They are created by Arafat . The Palistanings Deny western History . Dig in the ground in Palistine and you will Jewish History .

God bless the Stanford faculty for getting it right.
The United States of America was founded on religious freedom, not the use of PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS to deny freedom.
Yes, Stanford is primarily self funding.
Yes, Stanford does receive some public monies for research, albeit a small percent-age.
Yes, the divestment groups believe that they are correct for applying racist, (for that is what anti-Semitic values represent), values to the Middle East conflict as a result of reformed Koranic teachings.
And YES, the legal and academic faculties are tired of fighting the racists that are usurping the system to try and get their way.
    So be it.
    God and love are correct.
    All else fails.

After conclusions repeated ad nauseum that Israel oppresses its Arab citizens, that becomes a poetic truth that can’t be dented by facts, reason or logic. See, in the Gatestone Archive, “Narrative of Perpetual Palestinian Victimhood”. See also Karsh, “Israel’s Arabs, Deprived or Radicalized”.
According to Mordechai Khedar, the Arabs outside Israel refer to those inside as Arabs Al-Zibda or “whipped cream Arabs”.

  • Adele Gauer

I Am proud of the Board of Directors of STANFORD UNIVERSITY for rejecting the BSD of Israel and calling for antiSemitism as an international crime

  • Anschel

I suspect that universities in the U.S. are accepting too many international students from Arab countries simply because those countries are using oil revenues to subsidize those “students” (whose real job is to drum up anti-Israel propaganda or worse). Also, in many cases, the U.S. may be training nationals of hostile countries in technologies that they would use against the interests of the U.S., Israel, and the West in the future. Greater scrutiny in accepting such “international students” certainly seems to be warranted.

  • Corey Multer

I would rather have seen a statement recognizing that Israel is in the right and condemning the hateful efforts to unfairly demonize her, but I’ll take this response as satisfactory.

  • frogorf

Good for Stanford!!! I am glad to see that their leadership has the courage and morality to reject the efforts of Jew-haters.

  • Carl

Excellent that Stanford gave the appropriate response. It should not have taken months of deliberation to reach that conclusion, though. Such demands should be dismissed outright. These self-styled human rights advocates are so obviously just run-of-the-mill Jew haters given their irrational focus on perceived Israeli abuses while completely ignoring the mass murder by Assad’s tyrannical regime, the misogynist mullahs of Iran, the genocidal leaders of Sudan, Russian crimes against Ukraine, Saudi abuse of women and their apartheid against non-Muslims, and dozens of other truly horrific actions around the world.

  • Paul Cerar

Good! Now these BDSholes should do the right thing, and emigrate to Palestine, or Iran, or Somalia, or to Hell.
