One of Hezbollah’s recent achievements has been boosting Israel’s security, said former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy on Thursday, according to Israeli Channel 2 News.

“Hezbollah, day by day, is contributing to the security of the state of Israel,” said Halevy during a conference held by the Fisher Institute for Air and Space Strategic Studies in Israel.

Halevy’s seemingly shocking comments were not quite as controversial as they may have first appeared. One of the conclusions reached at the conference was that the path to victory in smaller wars against irregular forces and terrorist organizations — like Hezbollah in Lebanon or Hamas in Gaza — can be achieved through a confluence of various interests.

Netanyahu Lauds Trump for ‘Reassertion of American Leadership in the Middle East’

Halevy went on to address Hezbollah’s involvement in the bloody Syrian civil war. He stressed that the group’s entanglement in the fierce combat raging in Syria boosted Israeli security because it has kept the organization’s hands tied while inflicting many casualties among its well-trained fighters.

Another way Hezbollah is contributing to Israel’s security, he said, is by “challenging and weakening [the Islamic State] in a significant manner, a manner in which we are not capable. We cannot compete with them.”

Halevy also highlighted recent events in Gaza, wherein Hamas reportedly has been making efforts to suppress the growth of the Islamic State in the Gaza Strip.

“A group of individuals raised the flag of the Islamic State atop a mosque [in Gaza],” said Halevy, “and within a few hours they were buried and the flag was burned.”

He noted that, “if we had done this, we would not have had any casualties, and they would have condemned us the world over.”

There is really no government in Syria, so Israel can do what it wants to IS if needed. These are not the protected species like the Palestinians or Shiites. Everyone has condemned them and are bombing them. If we got rid of them, what can people say. Not much. In fact people try to scare us so we will act. But yeah Hizbullah do us a favor by dying.

The comment that Israel could not compete with Hezbollah because anything Israel does is criticized the World Over; But the Terrorist group, Hezbollah can do anything they choose, and the World says nothing. That in itself is very telling and is more proof that we are definitely living in the Last Days before JESUS CHRIST returns; This is Prophecy being fulfilled straight from GOD’s Holy Word.
    Zechariah 12:3
…2″Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. 3″It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. 4″In that day,” declares the LORD, “I will strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness. But I will watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness….

      Amen:

      Ezekiel 38:

17 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You are the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel. At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. 18 This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. 19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 The fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. 21 I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. 22 I will execute judgment on him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. 23 And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’

  • I believe that reciting TEHILLIM helps Israel’s security 🙂

despite the paradoxical statement, the chief of the Mossad rights. Hezbollah is fighting jihadists in Syria – it increases the security of Israel. Hezbollah is distracted from the fight with Israel – it is also good for Israel.
Therefore, you should carefully monitor events, analyze them, and not to repeat like a parrot what was true yesterday.

Why must Halevy state what is very obvious to any observer of the region. Why publicize it? He is an attention-seeker and that is all.

Algemeiner is an excellent news source, but should use some judgment about publishing the comments of every ex-security official who feels ignored and wants attention by spelling out the obvious and pointing out the flaws in the enemy strategy.

I am cheered by Efraim Halevy’s remark, but not altogether convinced.
Since Hezbollah is purported to have 100,000 missiles pointed at Israel (thanks to Tzipi Livni’s influence as Foreign Minister of Israel, against all advise from
Israeli poli6tical and military staffs) we cannot be complacent, but rather watchful and ready to take immediate action against any aggressive actions by Hexbollah.

    • Ira

You can’t fire 100,000 missiles in a short period of time. It is better for Hezbollah to lose it’s core fighters and lose influence in Lebanon by fighting in Syria. If the Likud Govt were gone, or if it would listen to the IDF command, the Shin Bet and Mossad chiefs, past and present it would return to the policy of promoting 2 states instead of evading that solution.

The Hezbollah arsenal & that of Hamas is only a threat because the Likud has made the IDF pussyfoot when Israel has been attacked from Gaza or Lebanon. The IDF knows that the IDF AF cannot, by itself end the threat by bombing. It knows and has counseled that infantry and armor must be committed to root out the Hamas and Hezbollah strongpoints. And arsenals located in the towns villages, schools and hospitals and in the hillsides. That will of necessity carry with it a stiff price in IDF casualties. And in avoidable civilian casualties both Israeli and Arab. But every time the IDF is held back the future cost in casualties will, of necessity, increase.

    • Yossi ende

There is no need to cheer or feel any safer, the remark is just an opinion base on facts. If you think only of the facts you need only to agree that Hezbollah forces are busy and there focus for now is not on Israel.
I hope that the IDF will never lose its focus

  • Lynne Marton

You really can’t argue with that reasoning!!!

  • arne normann

..strange but clear; my enemies enemi – might even be my friend as we bouth face the same conclutions.

Once Halevy was the secret liasson that led to peace between Israel and Jordan . He must be working in the shadows again.
All the more power to him !

But Iran accuses Il for the creation of ISIS!

  • Stephen Hughes

After The Beating Iranian & Hezbollah Forces Took / Taking In Syria & Iraq Its No Wonder .. Iran Is Only Position Itself So It Can Take Advantage Of Israel And Destroy Her.. If This Was Even Close To Being True Iran & Hezbollah Would Turn Off Its International Media Campaign Proclaiming Isis Is Funded And Backed By Israel And The CIA.

  • cynic Jews

Yeah, that why the Jew haters claim that Israel is covertly behind fomenting civil war in the middle east.

    • Sarfaraz Abbasi

Israel sure is (behind fomenting civil war in the ME)
