Historic: Woman to Lead Israeli Mossad’s Recruitment Department
by David Daoud
The Chief of Israel’s renowned Mossad, Tamir Pardo, decided this week to appoint a woman, known only by the code-name “Yud”, to be the new head of the intelligence organization’s human resources department, Israeli news site NRG reported on Tuesday.
With her appointment, Yud will achieve the highest ever rank held by a woman serving in Mossad.
According to the report, Yud will assume her new position within the next few months. She will also be promoted to a rank equivalent to the Israel Defense Forces rank of major-general, which is comparable to an OF-7 rank in NATO. Before her promotion, Yud worked in the Mossad’s manpower division.
When she assumes the role, Yud will even outrank Sima Shine, the current deputy director of the Strategic Division at Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs, who held the rank of brigadier-general when she was previously Mossad’s Head of Research in the Intelligence Division. At the time, Shine held the highest rank ever achieved by a woman in Mossad.
