The U.K.’s largest student union criticized its newly elected president for accepting a Coca-Cola sponsorship that the union said goes against its policy of boycotting Israel, The Independent reported on Monday.

Megan Dunn, who was elected president of the National Union of Students (NUS) in April, was rebuked for accepting the sponsorship for the National Union of Students Awards 2015 ceremony. Many of the NUS’s local constituent unions boycott Coca-Cola and have accused the U.S. soft drink giant of operating factories in territories “illegally occupied” by Israel, according to The Independent.

The union’s executive council reportedly passed Dunn’s censure by a 20 to 14 vote with two abstentions. The motion criticized Dunn’s “refusal to accept that Coca-Cola is a target of the BDS movement or to release an apology for accepting their sponsorship.”

BBC Journalist Mistakenly Taken for Jewish Taunted by British Intellectual Commanding She ‘Get Back in the Oven’

A BBC journalist mistakenly identified as a Jew was told at a recent high-end London event to “get back in...

According to the NUS rules, a censure vote is a criticism of an individual or group, indicating that the union is unhappy with their actions. It is not as serious as a vote of no confidence, which calls for the official’s removal.

Senior officers of the group boycotted the annual awards ceremony in protest of the Coca-Cola sponsorship, and a number of local union representatives and officers also refused to attend, The Independent said.

The NUS passed a resolution to adopt Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) measures in June.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the NUS for its policy earlier this year, saying, “They boycott Israel but they refuse to boycott ISIS.”

“They condemn Israel and do not condemn ISIS; they condemn themselves,” he added. “Israel has an exemplary democracy. We have academic freedom, press freedom, human rights. ISIS tramples human rights to the dust.”

this is a sign of the lack of maturity and intellectual consistency of this organization.
Israel is the only democracy in the region, the only free country in that god forsaken land, and you attack it. Shame on you. The Palestinians, are pawns in the Arabs hand as. Their problems would have easily being solved decade ago by being absorbed by any of the countries that was claiming that land on 1947, thereby conferring them some sort national identity, instead we have a whole population of professional refugees, which is unheard of in the annals of the UN. Garza and the West Bank are a cesspool of hate and terrorism. And it’s elimination wouldn’t be a loss at all. Palestinians are killed by the thousands in Syria, Lebanon , and are being sought after by ISIS as cannon fodder because after all that has been their function for decades in the hands of thecarabs.

Thank you for standing upi to the truth.
      Referring to the Israel/Palestinan dispute.
One must never forget that there was a geogrphical area called Palestine. There were no “Palestinans nations”
every person living in that geographical area were Palestinias. Jews, Christians, Mslims, Druze, Bahai.

The Britsh had a mandate to control Palestine.
But The British Foregin office have always been Arab supporters and anti Semitic. > Jordan Occupied what is known as the Weatbank, and parts of Jew\rusalem. That is biblically Judea and Samaria, which were given to the jews by G-D.
The UN voted to create 2 countries, one for Jews and another for Arabs. Israel was reborn in 1047/8
ISRAE WAS ATTACKED BY 5 aRAB NATIONS, WELL THRAINED AND HEAVILY ARMED,
iSRAEL HAD NO ARMY, AITFORCE, NAVY. tHE “ARMY” WAS MOSTLY ww2 VETERANS. tHE AIRFORCE WAS ww2 gERMAN MESSERSHMIT FIGHTERS.
iSRAEL PRICHASED THESE PLANES FROM TCHECS.
wITH THE LOSS MANY, THEY DEFEATED THE 5 ARAB ARMIES. THIS MUST HAVE BEEN WITHT HE HELP OF G-D.
WESTBANK AND PARTS OF JERUSALEM WAS OCCUPIED BY JORDAN. WHO DESTOYED 56 SYNAGOGUES IN THE OLD CITY. ISRAEL WON THAT LAND FROM THE JODANIANS, THE JORDANIANS NEVER ASKED FOR IT BACK, BUT ARAFT INVENTED THE “PALESTINAINS”
THAT IS WHERE THE TROUBLE STARTED.
      THE LAND IS NOT “PALESTINIAN”
      IT IS ISRELI LAND.
THERE ARE NO “SETTLERS” BUT BUT IT IS BIBLICAL JEWISH LAND.
THE REAL SETTLERS ARE THE ARABS.

President Dunn is to be commended for her bravery in light of the generally extortionate tactics used by the BDS movement and its fascist left partners in their irrational and historically and politically ignorant hatred of Israel and, perhaps and thereby, virulent anti-Semitism. To be subject to the vagaries of such gutter-bound mumblings of frothing-at-the-mouth hysterics like the BDS movement is tantamount to foregoing all claims to any level of academic, intellectual, and personal liberty. All who stand in public defiance of the so-called progressive brown shirts are to be visibly and loudly extolled for their principle and courage.

We need the names of everyone who voted for the censure. So I know who never to hire unless they publicly denounce their stupidity and apologize publicly to Israel. The moronic decision to BDS in the first place will certainly be a topic of concern on interview day.

If the NUS wants to be consistent, what about white cops in the USA shooting to kill unarmed Afro-American males [as young as 12!]?. What about China where people are frequently executed? What about the ‘moderate’ Muslim world were clerics discuss whether gay males should be thrown off a cliff or beaten to death — or in Iran hanged from a crane’? What about many Third World countries where corruption and crime are endemic? Where should the NUS draw the line? Has Fatah asked the NUS to boycott Coke?

This is just another reason why the age of being eligible to vote should not only not be lowered but increased in my opinion. Persons of their age and younger are fired with anti establishment fervour, have no real concept of worldly matters , be they of UK or worldwide events.

These idjits are totally ignorant of the fact that Coca Cola is building a major bottling plant in Gaza, their terrorist clients. It will be a new center for muchly needed employment there. No matter. These ‘students’ would rather punish Coke for doing that, than reward them for trying to be even handed. Shows to go you how the Muslims have targeted the student organizations with candidates who win with substantial funding for their campaigns which hide their real Islamist agendas. Cynically Muslims use the ‘democracy’ they disparage to undermine the system to their advantage. Of course the stupid students don’t have a clue.

The British need to take better care of their teeth!Stop drinking
Coke. They do not condemn ISIS because they want to keep their idiot heads. Also we Jews need to boycott England. I hope that the Muslims will find a cure for cancer or other maladies.Oh i forgot the Muslims have not made a major discovery in over 400 years. It seems that Socialized medicine will just have to wait.

The “progressive” witch-hunt is on. Political correctness in action.

  • enufizenuf

The Brits, themselves, are condemned, but they just don’t know it yet. The PC idiot wimps that they are will all be subjugated by their new muslime overlords within a very short period of time. Every injustice the Brits ever committed upon the Jews will come back to them – and eventually at the cost of their entire nation.

Coca Cola is only the tip of the iceberg. Wait until these “students” find they can no longer use their computers or cell phones; that life-saving Israeli medical technology for their loved ones will be morally unacceptable by their misguided logic. Israel is a powerhouse of science and technology. We can easily live without the “advances” in death techniques brought by the Palestinians and their Arab terrorist brethren. Israel actually helps make our lives better.

the bds obsession is pathologically hateful. if Dunn made a principled decision to resist the fanatical imposition of the modern inquisitors of bds, more power to her.

if one pauses to reflect on the venomous obsession with Israel, the justice of Israel’s claim to its ancient patrimony, the fundamental decency of its society, the genocidal jihadist character of its enemies, and the complete indifference of bds to other issues, one sees that bds is an eager accomplice to a conspiracy to commit genocide.

These students are going to college with bags over their heads. They are learning nothing. They are like robots who are told what to believe. Looking at evidence and critical reasoning are beyond them. I worry about the next generation of adults in the UK.
