JNS.org – The United States is planning to release jailed Jewish spy Jonathan Pollard, who has been incarcerated for three decades over a conviction for giving Israel classified information on America, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The report cited “U.S. officials, some of whom hope the move will smooth relations with Israel in the wake of the Iran nuclear deal.”

Pollard is the only person in U.S. history to receive a life sentence for spying for an American ally. Advocates for his release have argued that he should be freed because his time in prison has been disproportionately long based on the crime he committed. Additionally, in recent years, the 60-year-old Pollard’s failing health has been widely cited as an argument for his release on humanitarian grounds.

“Jonathan Pollard spied on his country and deserved time in jail. But his sentence and the amount of time he served was dramatically disproportionate when compared to others who committed similar crimes. If the reports are true, it is good that he’s finally being released,” U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Friday.

US Jewish Groups Praise Tillerson’s Renewal of State Department Antisemitism Envoy

US Jewish groups reacted with praise and relief on Tuesday to the news that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is...

According to the Wall Street Journal, some U.S. officials are pushing for Pollard’s release within the next few weeks, while other officials say he will wait until he is up for parole on Nov. 21, which would mark exactly 30 years since his arrest.

On July 17, The Algemeiner was first to report that the U.S. Justice Department was “seriously considering” freeing Pollard from federal prison in Butner, N.C., citing a source who said the release would come in consideration of his failing health and not for the purpose of calming U.S.-Israel tension over the Iran deal.

Officials with first-hand knowledge of Pollard’s case who have called for his release include, but are not limited to, James Woolsey, former director of the CIA; Dennis DeConcini, former chair of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee; David F. Durenburger, also a former chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee; Robert C. MacFarlane, former U.S. National Security Advisor; Lawrence J. Korb, former Assistant U.S. Secretary of Defense; Prof. Angelo Codevilla, a former Senate Intelligence Committee staffer; Lee Hamilton, former chair of the House Select Committee on Intelligence; and attorney Bernard W. Nussbaum, former White House counsel.

Let him rot in jail. A guy who is convicted of treason, and then gets citizenship in the county he was working for is nothing but a louse. It’s inconceivable that the Israelli government is even helping this guy given America and Israeli’s “friendship.”

We must all thank HASHEM if Pollard is released.
He should be sent immediately to Israel, where he should be given a heros welcome.
Israel should make sure that he is given a beautiful home, and every bit of help that he needs to get.
Why has Pollard been in prioson for such a long time?
Was it because he advised Israel that the USSLIBERTY was spying on th IDF and giving info to Egypy?
That could be the reason why the IAF bombed the USA Liberty.
Unfortunanately, many US sailors were killed, which lead to more hatred of Israel by those who would hate Israel any any way possible.

Pollard shoud be given a car and driver to take him wherever he wants to go

The USS Liberty was attaacked when Pollard was 17 years old. The whole USS liberty is a red herring. On the other hand Israelis should be concerned about releasing this guy because he is a criminal and a con man. He and his ex wife Anne ran up a bunch of debts and needed money. He tried to sell his information to other contries before he even talked to Israel. He admitted that he sold the information for 50 grand. Don’t delude yourself into thinking that these people care the slightest about Israel. Anne was flown out out of New York personally by Netanyahu, given a stipend, and an apartment, and then continued to claim that Israel didn’t do enough for her. Your hero would sell nukes to I.S.I.S. If he could make a buck. Israel needs to do its self a favor and stop promoting anti-Semetism by getting behind this guy. When your prime ministers beg for the release of a traitor it really looks bad. I know you don’t care. I know you think that Pollard is a victim, but the truth is he’s playing all you. Israelis are making the claim that you don’t leave a soldier behind, but the fact is that the Pollards would definitely leave you all behind if the price was high enough.

It will never happen. Hussein Obama can never be seen as doing anything for the Jews. Never.

I am highly suspicious. The best proof of White House sincerity is immediate release.

Dennis Ross and others have admitted that Pollard is now being held as a “bargaining chip”.

It sounds to me like: “keep quiet ,Jews, and I will consider releasing your boy… Or I will pull the football away again at the last minute

. Schumer has the power let him speak out and exercised it.
