After Sirens Sound in Southern Israel, Jihadist Group Warns: ‘Jews, Your Children Are Not Safe’
Shortly after Red Alert sirens sounded Tuesday morning in Israeli communities bordering Gaza, a pamphlet was circulated, warning that Israel’s children were not safe, Israeli news site nrg reported.
The pamphlet, issued in Arabic and poorly translated Hebrew by a Gaza-based Salafist group calling itself Ahfad al-Sahaba, (“Descendants of the Companions of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad”), threatened: “O, you Jewish cowards, at the beginning of your academic year, your leaders are incapable of providing security to your children.”
The flyer indicated the group’s location as being in “the outskirts of the Baytul Maqdis [Jerusalem, lit. Holy Temple] — Gaza.” It was stamped with the purported seal of Muhammed, which contains the second part of the Islamic shahada, the creed asserting that Muhammed is Allah’s prophet. This seal is commonly used by many jihadist organizations, most infamously on the flag of the terrorist organization ISIS.
Despite the sounding of the sirens, nrg said no rocket strikes were reported.
